HalfBlindGamer, MrCustard and myself went to the annual Bonami Computer Museum Retro Gaming Event in Apeldoorn (The Netherlands) on October 3rd 2010. One of those rare occasions that retrogaming comes out of the closet over here in the Netherlands. Below you can find official footage taken by the organizers of the event. Seb (HalfblindGamer) and myself shot some really nice quirky things that will of course show up in a dual production video soon.
For you guys who are interested in this event and don't want to wait for our footage to be edited, take a look below. Alas all is in Dutch but the view speaks for itself. If you guys want some additional information on the clips or even some translations, do let me know.

On youtube I was discussing the subject 'why do we collect video games?' I recorded this on the MacBook sitting at the dinner table. Then suddenly the wife's phone starts to ring - and I have to answer it because it is the guy who will start work on our house tomorrow.... thus cutting short any other musings I have on this subject.
;-)
So Why do you collect games?

Just a reminder that the Philly VGXPO is this weekend. While I have other commitments this year, I went last year and it was at least a decent source of classic videogame merchandise, if not quite as interesting to me as when it was under the "Philly Classic" name at a different venue.
Here is AtariAge's press release on the subject:

The Warp Factor (SSI, 1981): Front of box image from an eBay auctionAh, the wonders of eBay. While you can occasionally get a hard-to-find game for a low price with lots of luck - say maybe $35 with shipping - other times you'll see boxed software go for ridiculous prices that no mere mortal can afford, like SSI's classic "The Warp Factor" for the Apple II, with a very recent final sale price before shipping of $449.44! Even though it's sealed, it's still an amazingly over-the-top winning bid. As is usual with SSI games - particularly pre-1986 SSI games - the cover artwork is beautiful and there are nice extras inside the oversized box. A fine specimen or not (though this one is actually a bit crushed!), average-to-good game itself or not, it can't help but make you reflect on the meaning of collecting, particularly as it applies to our hobby.
