Jeff McCord, developer behind the classic VIC-20/C-64 title Sword of Fargoal (reviewed here), has launched a Kickstarter program to fund development for a sequel. The sequel sounds FANTASTIC, featuring character classes, "action cards," and the ability to share dungeons, as well as huge amounts of great artwork and music. A $8 pledge gets you the game as well as a DRM-free version of the soundtrack. Go up to $50 for a T-shirt and $100 for a bunch of other goodies. Please, please, please, go right now and make your pledge. You will pay NO MONEY if this project doesn't make, and we really need to act NOW to make this happen. We've got two weeks left on the Kickstarter and over $32,000 left to go, so get your ass over there RIGHT NOW and donate. I'm going to be mad as hell if I'm not playing me some good ol' Sword of Fargoal 2 with all the bells and whistles Jeff and Paul P. have put together here. If you were one of the millions who played a pirated version of this game back in the day, Jeff has promised to absolve you of all your sins if you pledge even $1 to this.

Now, seriously, get over there and pledge. This is EXACTLY the kind of project we SHOULD be funding, not just the ones from famous people. If you don't know anything about the game, he's put the first one up for free so you can try it out. This is the updated release for the iOS, mind you, but it's still got all the classic gameplay we fell in love with back in the 80s.

In this part we talk about her game 4x4 Off-Road Racing, a fun little game published by Epyx (Amiga version shown here). Then we talk about her time at id and Ensemble, focusing on Age of Empires III and the War Chiefs expansion, her favorite project of all time. Text, Image and Video Overview of Impossible Mission 2025 - The Special Edition (CD32, 1994)

The month of the Commodore Amiga CDTV/CD32 continues with a quick overview - including direct screen capture and video - of Impossible Mission 2025 - The Special Edition for the CD32. As stated earlier, I'm going to go into these overviews as if the CD32 version were an "island", meaning I will simply take the games as they are, paying little mind to whether the game is a simple floppy port or a fully realized platform-specific experience. In other words, whether you can play the same exact game on an AGA (or even OCS/ECS!) Amiga computer from a single floppy drive in lieu of this CD-based multimedia platform, it will have no bearing on my opinion. Now, "stay awhile" and let's get to it:

A Review of Epyx's The Sword of Fargoal (1982)

Jeff McCord's The Sword of Fargoal, released in 1982 for the Commodore VIC 20 and updated in 1983 for the Commodore 64, is one of the most accessible and innovative of the 8-bit computer role playing games. Every serious "Commodork" is familiar with the title, and for good reason. As I see it, there are essentially two qualities that earn this game its venerable status as classic. First, it's a highly accessible game that anyone can learn to play in minutes. Secondly, the creative "fog of war" effect, real-time gameplay, and creepy sound effects generate far more suspense than most other early RPGs. Even in 2006, nearly a quarter century after its release, The Sword of Fargoal still offers compelling and addictive gameplay.
