Dragon's Lair: The Sexiest Videogames of All Time (01)

In Armchair Arcade's fun new series, we ask the provocative question, "What makes a particular videogame sexy?" Each week's feature will explore some of the many intriguing approaches game designers have taken over the years to make their games more sensual, not just with increasingly detailed graphics, but also with romantic and seductive gameplay. While some of the games we'll be looking at are unabashedly low brow, displaying their raw sexuality like a badge of honor, other games in contrast are remarkably subtle, often downplaying their suggestive themes.

This week's entry, written by Bill Loguidice, is on the oft-ported arcade classic, Dragon's Lair. Enjoy, help spread the word, and of course, let us know what you think:

Mark plays... Gyruss (Arcade) - a small challenge is included

An easy challenge - beat me at Gyruss. I play the arcade version here and I show you how far I got. :P

A great example of a 'Tube Shooter' ala Tempest

The maker of this game moved on to create great games like Time Pilot, Street Fighter and 1942

Highscore to beat (easily): 72450

Diagnosis: Gyruss Infection
Remedy: Keep on playing it.

Mark plays... 19xx - the War Against Destiny (Arcade)

A little video on the Capcom shmup 19xx from the golden era of Shmups. Mind you this was totally unscripted.... it should have been a little scripted as the narration is well.... kinda rough :P

Where Did You Play Your Arcade Games?

What Arcade-games did you use to play? When did you play them? And where? In the Arcades or somewhere else?

Interghost did a great video on it and made it a TAG:

This is my response to it. If you don't know Interghost yet - please go check out his video and channel.

Mark plays... Gyruss on Atari 8-bit with other console footage (HD)

In this video I am trying to play Gyruss on the Atari 8-bit home computer range (800XL/130XE) and I talk a bit about the game, life, the universe and everything on the side.

It is a very fun game and belongs right up there with my all-time favorites (time pilot, gyruss are right up there).

Mark builds his Mame Arcade Cabinet (sort of)

I finally built my long awaited Mame Cabinet - sort of

I got an iCade because I was able to download iMame from iTunes when it was up there momentarily just before it was pulled from the service. It is possible to add more games to it and it allows your iPhone, iPod or iPad to function as a Mame tablet. Combine it with the iCade and you can turn it into a cheap Mame Cabinet. I am thinking about doing a proper sit down mame cab sometime in the future though but this will suffice for now.

Now I own the white rimmed iPad2 - they were fresh out of black ones when I went to go get one and I think the black rimmed iPad2 would look even better in this iCade cab. :P

If you have jailbroken your device it is possible to download the Mame4All package and run that instead. Mind you the iPad 2 still is not possible to be jailbroken. I have an iPad2 and an iPhone4 and both work great with this iCade cabinet. It is also possible to use this blue tooth arcade stick with Android tablets running a version of Mame compatible with this too :P
so it is not iOS only!

Replay 2011 - day 1 - Teaser

Had an amazing day at the Norbreck hotel at Replay 2011. Met a lot of great people and the atmosphere was just awesome! And it is happening again tomorrow!

Retro geek heaven this is! I'll be going again in 2012 - it will be held in Manchester city a few weeks earlier even!

Gaming Deaths

This video has been making the rounds lately. Rather simple premise--show a bunch of deaths in arcade classics interspersed with oddly appropriate clips from vintage TV shows and commercials.
