NewsCheck out this great typewriter hack made by Jonathan M. Guberman.

In his own words: Introducing the Automatypewriter, a new way to experience interactive fiction! It’s still a little rough around the edges (in particular, you can see that the spacebar sticks a little, and the whole thing needs to be tidied up), but you get the idea: the Automatypewriter is a typewriter that can type on its own, as well as detect what you type on it. By reading what it types to you and responding, it can be used interactively to play a game or participate in a story (in this case, Zork).

Play Infocom Games Online in Your Browser - Great Implementation!

Infocom games have been among the earliest emulated games you could play online (Telnet anyone?), but this is one of the better looking browser-based implementations I've seen, complete with multiple same game releases! Check it out here.

I have finally finished writing my history of Zork for GamaSutra. Despite some initial difficulties, I was able to secure interviews from a variety of important figures in the Zork and larger IF world, including Steve Meretzky, Marc Blank, Dave Lebling, Nick Montfort, and Howard Sherman.

As some of you may know, I've been a bit busy of late drafting a retrospective piece about Zork for GamaSutra. Although I initially had problems getting in touch with the famous "imps" (Zork programmers, short for "implementors"), I finally managed to hit the jackpot. I've got interview material with Marc Blank, Steve Meretzky, Nick Montfort, and hopefully Dave Lebling (waiting for response).

The 12th Annual Interactive Fiction Competition--Download the games and vote!

If you enjoy playing interactive fiction (aka text adventures), you should know that the 12th Annual IF Competition is underway. The games have been submitted; now it's time for you to download the 44 games and vote for your favorite entries. You can either download the whole collection via Bit Torrent or check out individual games. The time limit is six weeks (November 15th, 2006), so you'd better get a move on if you want to be a judge in the contest.
