Sinclair QL on a Stick

For those interested in the obscure, but very intriguing Sinclair QL from the mid-80's, you can now get a type of turn-key QL environment for use with a modern Windows PC that can be transferred to a USB memory stick (minimum 128MB). This is a great idea and I'd like to see implementations of this for other systems. I personally own a very robust real Sinclair QL setup, but I think this would also make a fine companion for that, particularly in regards to data exchange. More information here.

Amazing Mattel Intellivision ROM Package Released on microSD - Optimized for the Cuttle Cart 3

CC3 Package MenuCC3 Package MenuAs many of you know, Chad Schell's Cuttle Cart 3 for the Intellivision was recently released and was a boon to enthusiasts who wanted a ROM flash cart/development environment for Mattel's system. The one "downside" to the Cuttle Cart 3 was that you needed to set up your own menus, manuals and ROMs for use with the miniSD card. Obviously, one solution is to get the official ROM releases from Intellivision Productions, but it still requires a lot of setup work and is not all-inclusive (support them and their products anyway!). An even better solution - an addition to everything else you might want to do with the Cuttle Cart 3 or Intellivision emulation in general if you will - is get David Harley's new release, which includes ROMs that have never been seen before and a variety of patched software (for instance, the amazing Ehanced Computer System (ECS)-based World Series Major League Baseball is fully functional now!).

Also, be sure to check here and here for information of a very impressive looking 1989 unreleased 85% complete prototype of Missing in Action (based on the "classic" Chuck Norris film) for the Atari 7800, also available for purchase or free ROM download for use with a Cuttle Cart 2 or emulator. (Keep in mind that emulation does not yet display the game properly, so the screenshot to the left and any that you see right now not taken directly off of a TV screen do not show off the game to its fullest)

micro-KIM Pre-orders soon - Commodore PET pre-cursor

micro-KIM: Prototype from Briel Computersmicro-KIM: Prototype from Briel ComputersBriel Computers, the gentleman responsible for the popular "replica 1" Apple I clone and the in-progress "Altair PC" Altair 8800 modern re-imagining is at it again, this time with the "micro-KIM", a modern clone of MOS Technologies' KIM-1, which was originally created in 1975 by legendary engineer Chuck Peddle, and a pre-cursor of sorts to the rise of Commodore and the PET. Visit the Website for full information and to send Mr. Briel an e-mail expressing your interest in a pre-order (and at a projected $99, it seems like a good deal). I know I did!

The latest from Mr. Briel (typos edited):
"The final prototype is being tested before pre-orders begin. Before production can start on a new project like this, we need a minimum of 10 pre-orders. Soon an email will go out explaining this and the expected wait time. If you want to help get this project off the ground help by being one of the first 10 pre-orders. Once there are 10 pre-orders, the order will go into the board house to make the blank boards and that takes about 4 weeks. Once the boards arrive, kits will be made. The goal is to start taking pre-orders no later than June 30th.

If only 5 people pre-order, that probably won't be enough and if too much time goes by, refunds will be given. However, I don't expect that to be a problem."

Adventure II: Limited Edition now out for the Atari 5200 SuperSystem!

I'm impossibly busy this weeked with work (yes, days, nights and weekends at the new job!) and trying to get as much done with the book before Monday's deadline, but I just had to quickly release this press release for Adventure II: Limited Edition on the Atari 5200 SuperSystem from AtariAge. The homebrew was just released after a long, long wait, and from all reports it's been worth it. On top of that, this package also includes lots of goodies ("feelies" if you will), creating a tremendous value and opportunity for collectors and enthusiasts of the system, alike. There's only a few boxed copies left, so I suggest you hurry, hurry, hurry!

Mattel Intellivision Cuttle Cart 3 is Now Available for Pre-Orders!

Main Menu for the Cuttle Cart 3: Mattel IntellivisionMain Menu for the Cuttle Cart 3: Mattel IntellivisionChad Schell, creator of the famous "Cuttle Cart" multi/flash cart series for the Atari 2600 and 7800, has spun his magic again, this time for the Mattel Intellivision as the "Cuttle Cart 3". It's been a very long time since the Intellivision has had anything like this available, and the good news is is that this improves on past efforts for the system by being fully flashable and making use of MiniSD cards. The only downside (at least for me) is that it won't load the Enhanced Computer System (ECS) World Series Major League Baseball ROM, one of the most impressive early baseball games, and one of the few games I've been so far unable to acquire on cartridge for the Intellivision that I've wanted (and the only one I"m missing for the ECS add-on).

At $150 plus shipping and handling, it's not cheap, but it's still one of those undeniable "must buys" for collectors and enthusiasts, particularly since this will be yet another limited production run. It even works as a development system. I ordered mine, just like I previously ordered the "Cuttle Cart 2" for the 7800/2600. Full details here, including photos and manuals.
