Mark Plays... Ridge Racer 6 (Xbox 360)

This video shows a bit of Ridge Racer 6 running on the Xbox 360. Reiko Nagase - the series mascot - has even more loose strands of animated hair and is rendered in gorgeous detail in the full motion video opening sequence.

This game is the single outing on the Xbox platform of this series; the rest can be found on various PlayStation consoles. The goal of the game is to place 1st in a series of races. Nitro is introduced, which a lot of racers from around that era have--it temporarily boosts the performance of your car. To me, it always feels a little like cheating. The cars themselves are the familiar fictional cars that the Ridge Racer series is famous for.

There's a career mode called 'World Explorer' that allows you to 'live through' a career making choices on what races you want to race. There's new cars on offer but also mirroring and reversing of known tracks.

Ridge Racer 7 for the PlayStation 3 is a 'sequel' to this game, but basically seems to be something of a 'director's cut,' adding more vehicles and tracks. The PSP and PS Vita versions are quite similar to this game.

If you are looking for another game in the Ridge Racer series that is often overlooked, it's R:Racing Evolution on the PlayStation 2.

Mark Plays... Riptide GP2 (Android)(GameMID)

I am showing some of my gameplay and impressions of Riptide GP™2. This game is a cool sequel to the first Riptide on Android and iOS devices. Racing aqua-jets / hydro jets that have been upgraded to have rocket-intro speed boosts on tracks that look amazing. It is possible to tune the game-graphics to meet the specs of your Android device so you can have the most smooth and good looking experience. It has a single player mode as well as an online game mode that I will demonstrate in the video. It needs either Google Play or GameCenter/iCloud on iOS devices.

This game is running on the Android GameMID handheld gaming device running Android 4.1.1. The footage was captured with the AverMedia Live Gamer Portable. Riptide GP™2 was published by Vector Unit. Go grab this game I say. It's worth checking out on both Android or iOS.

Mark plays... Screamer (PC MS-DOS)

Screamer is an old MS-DOS game originally released in 1995. Created by Graffiti and published by Virgin. It's also available on GOG.com in both Mac and Windows flavours. A game very similar in looks to a mix of both Daytona USA as well as Ridge Racer. A direct competitor of this game was EA's Need for Speed which I was also a big fan of. This game even features licensed cars from various well known car manufacturers. A cool game even after all this time.

Go check out how I did. It had been ages since I last played it. And it shows ;)

Mark Plays... Mad Riders (PC)

A great Quad / ATV arcade racing game published by Ubisoft and developed by Techland. It's available on both PC and Xbox 360, as well as PS3. I like it a lot, it's wacky and over the top, and defies all laws of physics. A fun game.

Mark Plays... Ridge Racer V (PS2)

Ridge Racer V - is the 5th game in the Ridge Racer series on the Playstation line of consoles. This actually was one of the launch titles the PS2 was graced with and it is quite similar to Ridge Racer Type IV on the original Playstation or PSOne. It plays a lot faster and is more twitchy and it took me some time to get used to but it also showed a promise of things to come as Ridge Racer VI and VII obviously built opon the foundations laid in this game. A must play if you are a fan of the Ridge Racer series.

Mark Plays... Rage Racer (PSone)

I take a look at the third part of the Ridge Racer series called 'Rage Racer'. A game by Namco released in 1996-1997 for the original PlayStation. A game quite different from the first two releases of Ridge Racer where it's not just simply racing but it is possible to advance, get more experience and basically experience a racing career. You can earn money and you get to upgrade your car and/or buy different ones.

You race within 5 racing classes on 4 different four tracks in this game - quite a bit different from the first two Ridge Racers and at the same time they look and feel familiar, especially the start/finish is similar. The car manufacturers found in the game are Gnade (Germany), Age (France), Lizard (USA) and Absoluto (Italy). All types and makes have different features and behaviours. The prologue movie on the game disc is different between American/EU release and the Japanese release. The Music in the game is quite distinct different from the first two releases.

Mark Plays... Burnout (Gamecube)

Burnout - this is the first iteration of a great series of racing games. I explain a little about the game and then I do some gameplay. Neither of which is really good as it is tough to do both at the same time :P

I touch on the new 2013-03 YouTube layout too.

Mark plays... Formula Karts Special Edition (Saturn)

In this video I am trying to play Sega Karts Special Edition on the Saturn and I talk a bit about the game, life, the universe and everything on the side.

This game is fun if you are into your old school PC-VGA-like Kart games, mind you this is not much like Mario Kart and the likes. This pretends to be a serious game and it sort of is.

Again experimenting with various video setups to see what works and what doesn't.

Quick Peeks: F-1 Spirit: The way to Formula-1

Quick Peeks[ DEC . 22 . 2010 ]

The Way to Formula-1Way back in the golden age of video games, the humble racing game was nary more then a line on either side of the screen with an amorphous blob in the center to denote your "car". And you know what? It was damn fun to play.

In the ensuing years, the genre pulled itself up by it's proverbial boot straps, dusted itself off and started down the road (pun intended) to refinement... Adding better graphics, physics based handling, simulating realistic weather and track conditions and emulating the driving behavior of famous drivers.
