Don't Download this Song! Weird Al's Take on the RIAA

Matt Barton's picture

I really don't know where I'd be today if it weren't for Weird Al Yankovic. I grew up with his music, listening to his casettes on my ghetto blaster until they wore out. By that point, I had them memorized, so all was good. :-) Anyway, I have some very big news for Weird Al fans like me (and Bill!) Weird Al has just released another free song: Don't Download This Song. It's a satire on the music industry's war on file sharers. Definitely worth a listen, no matter which side of the issue you're on. Enjoy!

Don't Download this Video

Indeed. I was a bit surprised at how dark the video turned out to be--I'd assumed this was a fairly "wrist slapping" type exercise for Al--the video makes it look far more like a serious attack on the RIAA. I guess there's no love lost between Al and that organization!!

Format Fawning

Weird Al's latest has already impressed me, if for no other reason than because of the format. Side one is the album and the other side is a DVD with six videos and karaoke versions of all the songs. This is fan-freaking-tastic, and I would buy pretty much his entire catalog if they came out like this. I mean, seriously, if the karaoke songs with videos actually have the Weird Al video running in the background? Great, merciful, crap!

I've been away from AA for a while, so in case it wasn't mentioned already, he's also released another single fairly recently (You're Pitiful). Check out www.weirdal.com for the latest updates.
