Armchair Arcade: The Style, the Tone

Well, we've been at this for a couple of months now, and I daresay that we're beginning to settle into a nice groove. Everyday there are at least two news items that we hope you will enjoy checking out--and of course plenty of commentary on these items from your editors. Sooner than you think, we will be rolling out what we hope will be one of the best issues of Armchair Arcade to date. However, I think it's safe to say that we are still officially in a "beta state," and still open to suggestions and ideas about the future. You all have been very forgiving and patient with us during this transition, and I really, really appreciate it. Thanks.

The question I want to ask is, what do you think so far? Are you enjoying the blogs, or would you like to see more? What are we doing right? What are we doing that makes you think, "Geez, I wish they wouldn't do that?" One idea that has headed my way a few times is that we need to offer more commentary, editorials, and mini-features (particularly humorous ones) and less "Here's a link to retrogaming stuff" style posts. We've never aspired to be a "dumping grounds" for retrogaming links. We can never compete with commercial sites that already do that kind of thing with 20+ paid editors combing the net for news. As I see them, our strengths lie in (a) our extensive knowledge of all things retrogaming and (b) our writing skills. Although all of us keep up with the latest news and information about retro and modern gaming, perhaps we should try to be less like reporters and more like the writers and critics we are.

In short, would you like to see us engage in a bit more fun here? Would you like to see more of our opinions and wit? Or are you happy with the style and tone we've been taking towards the blogs? I really want to know!

In short, let's ask two questions. If someone asks, "What is Armchair Arcade?", what do you tell them? Secondly, if someone were to ask, "What would you like Armchair Arcade to do that it isn't doing now?" what would your answer be? Let's toss around some random thoughts here and see where they lead.
