Odyssey2For those of us that love playing old classic consoles, but have moved on to newer monitors and TV's with video inputs, this site is for you: http://www.vikingvideogames.com. They offer modification services for most older consoles (in addition to other services). A few people on a ColecoVision forum I frequent have upgraded their CV consoles and say the work and results are very good. I am saving my nickels so I can upgrade my CV console in the near future. Check them out and if you use their services, let us know the results.

I just wanted to wrap up
I just wanted to wrap up this entry. I just contacted the owner of the site mentioned in the original posting. Because of job changes and personal life issues, it will be some months before he will be able to take more orders for console mods. He has graciously agreed to keep my contact information on file and he promised to contact me when he is able to restart his refurbishing and mods.
In the meantime, I have found instructions for doing the ColecoVision RF->AV out mod. It doesn't look too complicated so I will probably make the attempt on one of my two CV consoles in the future. I will post again when I have more information related to this.
The ColecoVision was bad
The ColecoVision was bad with the RF interference, but the Adam was even worse. Putting a single loop in the RF cable helps, as does that adapter instead of a switchbox. I'll be very curious to hear how things go with an actual mod.

it's a good way to be able to connect more consoles to a telly
I reckon it's a good way to be able to connect more consoles to a telly using a standard switch box or AV receiver.

Indeed you are correct.
Indeed you are correct. However that is why I will only get one of my two ColecoVision consoles modified. When I want the crappy video (and that is the one big problem the Coleco always had), I will pull out my unmodified console! I so look forward to playing Lady Bug on a clear screen.
Hmmm... Doesn't the crappy
Hmmm... Doesn't the crappy video go along with that authentic classic gaming experience? If you upgrade the video quality to near spotless svideo of RGB, you could as well be playing an emulator ;)

No specifics, but certainly
No specifics, but certainly various before and after comparisons would be great, particularly of running games and what-not. Whatever you think. If you do it, great, if not, no big deal. It would be nice though.

Yes, I am thinking of
Yes, I am thinking of sending them one of my Coleco units. If you have a list of common things you normally try to cover for review, feel free to email the specifics to me.
I'd love to, but I don't
I'd love to, but I don't have the time, unfortunately. I already have review commitments that I have to get out of the way. If only there were more time...
Are you thinking of having some work done by them? If so, perhaps you'd be interested in covering it on behalf of AA?

Contact them and see..
Bill,
Maybe you should contact them to see if they would perform an upgrade for you at reduced cost or for free in return for an official review and mention on AA! Or, perhaps you could try talking to them to see if they would tell you what they actually do and how good the results are.
Atari 2600 Video Upgrade Issues
I remember a while back reading about some of the S-VIDEO upgrades for Atari 2600 systems, how some didn't get the colors quite right and what have you. I'd be curious what type of modifications many of these are for the various systems and if you get a pure output or not. In any case, this is a great idea!
I obviously have tons of systems, but save for the ones with the hard-wired switchboxes, I just use these in place of the typical RF switchbox output. In most cases it has super low interference and obviously requires no modification. With that said, there's certainly something tantalizing about a more permanent solution, particularly on a second machine.
