Another tough one, Matt...

I certainly greatly enjoy using the Xbox 360's standard wireless controller, but as I mentioned when talking about playing Frogger on Xbox Live Arcade, it just doesn't work that well in that case. If I'm playing Robotron with it or Fight Night, it's just great.

I suppose your question boils to favorite? I guess all-time it would have to be a spinner/paddle. I love those things. I guess if I had to pick ONE, right now it's probably the 360's wireless pad. Prior to that, I liked the Xbox 1 controller S a great deal, though that feels "clumsy" now ironically in comparison to the 360's design. I never liked the PS2's analog sticks (too loose) and the GameCube controller, while it fits like a glove, has uncomfortable buttons and an odd placement.

Yup--I figured most people

Yup--I figured most people would answer "depends on the game," so I left it off. :-) Really, though, I should've phrased the question a bit better. What controller do you find yourself using most often? So, even though you might like a 4-way stick to play Frogger, how often do you play Frogger compared to other games? I guess the question ultimately boils down to what kind of games do you like the best, and what kind of controller do you prefer to use when you play them?

I choose "other"

It depends on the game and situation. For some games, only a 4-way joystick will do for me, or a spinner, or a trackball. Sometimes an Atari joystick is just what the doctor ordered. Or a gamepad with dual analog sticks. It's easier to say what I don't like per game.

broad question

With first person shooters I prefer Mouse and keyboard, but learned to cope with joypad on xbox & x360.
Personally I hate the installation procedure, the directX, videodriver and configuration hassle on PC systems in order to be able to play a game. It's crazy to install all the code on the harddrive and still need to insert the cd/dvd in order to play a game. Consoles are much easier, no installing, hardly any configuration and yes you need the DVD/CD to play the game but don't loose harddrive space because of it.

I answered gamepad because as a retrogamer I am more of a console, arcade person and gamepad comes closest to the optimal answer.
