Yes, it is ugly, but on the other hand their required pledge was also low. I think it can be done and maybe, just maybe we can get something with proper game play depth.

Antharion

Ugly visuals - I mean, REALLY ugly visuals - but there's a lot to appreciate about Antharion...

Again, with the new Elite, if only slightly less obnoxious of a monetary request it would have had more than enough funds to do a bang up job. Even with the poor pitch and preparation it got a ton of support...

9 days to go and still almost 300.000 pounds to go. I think this is looking very grim.

I have quite mixed feeling about this project.

On one hand I would love a new Elite - and David Braben have been talking about it for years. I was once at a GDC (2004 I think) where he said that he was asked this all the time and one day he would do it.

On the other hand this project seems to lack innovation and drive. So a new Elite might be cool, but like with the "Old school RPG" aka "Shaker" project on Kickstarter they need to get their act together and provide some solid info from day one. I think project Eternity really showed how this should be done.

On a related note I think project Antharion is worth backing:

The developers seem noob but they have a lot of good thoughts and ideas while keeping production costs down.

What's sick is that in US dollars, they've already had over 1.3 million dollars pledged, but as with many bizarre things with this Kickstarter, they felt the need to go with a much higher target than that. Again, no specific ill will, but they don't deserve to reach their goal for so many reasons...

This latest news of layoffs makes me want to support them even less: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/183660/Frontier_lays_off_staff_in_fin...

I just don't get what's going on over there...

Play Quest for glory

not having played Quest for Glory is a problem in understanding the designers past work. They were mostly unique adventure/RPG hybrids where many things, from climbing, to Combat to the overall story were dependent on character stats, Character Class and often times the players individual wits.

But to be Fair, I don't really understand HERO-U's pitch entirely either, which is why, among other previously stated reasons it will not be getting my kickstarter support

Hmm. Still too early, but I'm thinking about it.

There's still way too little info, but it's hard not to want to see this game get funded. I love the concept(s), and I love this genre of gaming.

It still seems like it is way too early in the development phase to be pushing for Kickstarter funding, at least in comparison to other popular Kickstarter game projects. Star Citizen looks and sounds dynamite.

But the open-world, huge-galaxy, multi-player promise of "Elite:Dangerous" sounds extremely appealing, and a needed alternative to the simultaneously more ambitious/more limited Star Citizen. Two approaches to the genre, and both can be great games. Star Citizen is a no-brainer for me, but "Elite," due to its procedural(?) galaxy, might actually make it less costly to develop, and more likely to be successfully developed!

To be honest, the "Hero U" Kickstarter seemed about as limited in info and development as "Elite," if not more so. I looked at the Kickstarter page and watched the "Matt Chat" interview, and I'm still scratching my head as to what kind of game it is supposed to be. I never played "Quest for Glory," so maybe that might be a problem, but based on the Matt Chat episode, it looked very "adventurey," so I'm not sure how the "dungeon crawling" is planned to work in that kind environment.
