There are many shooters that I enjoy, but Call of Duty was.....

There are many FPS games that I enjoy, but Call of Duty was never one of them. I very much enjoyed Medal of Honor when it came out on the computer, but now I haven't played the games in so long, I wouldn't know where to start. Quake, Doom, Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior, and several others were enjoyable at the time, but very few tend to pull my attention now. When it comes to Halo I am in the same boat as Clok... I played it when it was brand new with my brother on split screen co-op, and could only keep asking myself, 'Is this it?' I couldn't see the draw with the first game. Where as the second game was better than the first, the third really didn't bring anything exciting to the series in my opinion. I have watched the video reviews on Halo 4 and some people love it, and others give it a good score but thrash the game while they review it. It confuses me that they can rate it well, but then spend most of the video talking about its faults. If it has so many faults, why is it getting such a great score? I'm glad to hear that 343 studios has created a game that captures the essence of Halo, but for me that mean almost nothing. The one thing I loved about the Halo games was the soundtrack and apparently that is not the same in the new one. I don't know, maybe I'm just being a grumpy old man. There are many types of new games coming out that I do like, so it's not a dislike of all new games. It all boils down to preference, and for me, Call of Duty and Halo weren't ever really a preference I guess.

What's all the fuss about?

Penny Arcade on Halo 4

Penny Arcade on Halo 4 (http://www.penny-arcade.com/):

"I told you that I would never take a job at 343 Industries, because their task was impossible; it’s all the more startling, then, that they managed to accomplish it.

It’s the best Halo campaign of the series, I don’t think there’s really going to be much of a debate there. Because the human brain is a Goddamned, stupid anachronism and barely up the fucking task, if Halo 4 had simply been as good as the previous games it would have been a failure. It is, in actual fact, a game that will make you give a shit about Halo. I had more narrative buy-in after the first ten minutes than any other game in the series managed to generate by the end.

When Bungie checked one of these things in, their games were “Halo” virtually by definition. That wasn’t the case for this team. They had to earn it. And by God, they did.

(CW)TB out.

I was thinking it said more

I was thinking it said more of your users liked older games and not fps over and over.. even me a pretty hardcore FPS person thinks there are to many. Sadly I will play um all and will probably enjoy most of them.. even when they are not new in any way. I gotta admit I'm really wondering what he hype is on Halo 4, 100's on alot of review sites and again, the statements made in those reviews really promises something new and exciting.. if it is.. I'm in..

Yeah, I think it does say a lot about our audience. I bet we'd have lots of anti company x people too if we did other polls...

Well, now you've all done

Well, now you've all done it... I've pre-ordered Halo 4. I *assume* I'll be able to avoid Black Ops II for a while, though I think if I ever do succumb, I'll get the Wii U version...

Meh, I just buy them new and then sell them when I'm done. I typically get $40 or so for the used game if it's a big game like Gears 3. So you're really only out $20 or so, plus the inconvenience of having to sell and ship it.

well it sure appears to be

well it sure appears to be good- Halo4 (lots of 100's)..time will tell. While i don't care for it.. that part because its console (I simply prefer mouse/keybard for FPS) part the fan boy love, and as i stay I still think its just an OK FPS..
If 4 is really ground breaking the reviews seem to say it brings something new to the table and quotes like "game of the year" (in a FPS? this i gotta see) i will buy it..

the new modern warfare FPS are all feeling the same to me.. they have turned into mini movies you play for 2-3 hours on single player and then if you don't play multiplayer (i do ) they are done.. those scripted scenes were pretty cool when they where new.. but now its like 1/4 of the game is them. its like the old day of FMV when it was used the first few times.. WOW! COOL! then the whole game became it . and it wasn't so cool anymore.

i too enjoy um.. just not enough to pay $60.. again it may sound like I'm saying bad.. There really are not many games I don't enjoy.. it just some are fun but average to me.. When a game like Torchlight II can come out for $20.. and its got hours of good play (and no its not original) i cant see were COD 23 using the same game engine, but enhanced, COD 21 and 22 did, has 6-10 hours of single player gameplay is worth $60.. or for that matter huge anticipation levels.

of course if fallout NEW YORK came out using the fallout 3-Vegas engine.. I would be climbing walls till it came out (even if it used an old engine and was just new assets and same old gameplay).. it is really about what you enjoy..

Looks like Halo 4 is getting

Looks like Halo 4 is getting stunning review scores across the board: http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/halo-4/critic-reviews

IGN's review: http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/11/01/halo-4-review

Looks like I may have to break down and get the thing even though I'm winding this generation of systems down with the buying as much as possible (I have SOOOOO many games thanks to the long generation). After all, while I'm no shooter connoisseur, I do like the best of the best in the genre...
