Earlier in the year, I was talking with Matt Barton regarding donating some hardware to him. They were an Amiga A600, and a commodore 64 set up. I have everything that he would need to make them work except for a few minor things, and I was wondering if anyone had any they would like to contribute to get Matt completely set to be able to use the above machines. Here's what I have currently:
44 Pin IDE to Compact Flash adapter
4 GB CF card
May have a the A603 adapter (1MB memory with RTC and Indivision ECS connector)
Commodore 64 Breadbin model with attached keyboard protector cover
A Commodore 1541 disk drive
For viewing these two machines a 1084S-D2 monitor, Chroma inputs for the C64, and RGB input for the A600.
Here's the things that I'm missing that are needed and if anyone has a spare they would donate to Matt I would be eternally grateful.
Commodore 64 Video cable or a location with schematics and pinouts to make my own.
A Commodore 64 Breadbin power supply. I sadly only have one and it is in use my my C64C.
A spare disk drive cable for the 1541 or a schematic and pin out to make one.
There are a few things that would make the Amiga run much more smoothly and I thought that I was set on that but the Kickstart 3.1 ROMs I have are for the A3000D which uses paired high and low ROMs and as such will not work. I have a mouse for him, but I need to test it and clean it up, as I think it has some microswitch issues.
I know I'm asking for a lot, and I hope this isn't insulting to anyone, but if you do want to donate any of the needed parts please let me know so everything can be arranged with Dr. Barton to get the items shipped to him properly. Thank you for the help.
I received it.
I tried to send you an e-mail regarding shipment of everything on Friday after I shipped the packages. I also refunded the extra money that was left over from the shipping to you as well. I got a generated Delivery Status Notification that even after 24.9 hours the message had not been delivered. I am uncertain if it's on my e-mail service side, or if G-Mail has an issue or what not, but I felt that since I was still being told that you hadn't received it, I wanted to let you know that I shipped both boxes this last Friday and they are expected to arrive on Wednesday of this coming week. As I said in the e-mail, please contact me if you have any issues or questions.
I have resolved the Amiga 600 issue. It was a simple software error in the configuration of the Hard drive settings. The software I couldn't get to run is now working perfectly fine. I will send Dr. Barton an e-mail in a moment to let him know personally.
I have gotten the hard drive all set up now and I have everything pretty much ready to go. I will be adding the A603 Memory card because during testing of various programs I noticed that the 1MB of RAM just wasn't enough to make everything run well. I just need to get a box for the monitor and some more bubblewrap to protect everything. My goal is to get it shipped by Wednesday at the latest. Thank you to everyone who helped with the parts I did not have and for the support in getting this set up for Dr. Barton. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and everyone who celebrated it had a Happy Hanukkah!
I can do that. Let me get everything put into boxes, packaged and weighed and I will e-mail you the weights and the costs to ship from here. Unless shipping costs have come down, it still might be cheaper to meet you halfway. Whatever you would like to do. I will try and get you the weights and shipping costs tomorrow.
Hi, Nathan, any updates on this? If you want to send me the shipping cost stuff it's firstname.lastname@example.org
I don't know how gas prices are in Minnesota right now, but here they are 3.15 a gallon, which make the idea of meeting halfway more compelling. Also on the A600 I have two different Flash adaptors. One mounts and sits to the side so you can cut a small notch out of the case on above the PCMCIA slot, and I have the standard one that plugs into the board with a cable and hangs loose in the case. Let me know which one you want. If you want to you can contact me via skype nathan.tolbert331 and identify the details so I can get you the machines and monitor when best for you.
I do have a paypal account but shipping is very very expensive due to the size of things. Approximately halfway for both of us would be a town called Webster City, Iowa. It's 258 miles from St. Cloud, and 271 miles from Olathe That is as close I can find for halfway. With my car the total gas cost at current prices of 3.72/gal to drive halfway and back is 52.22 which is less than the cost to ship the monitor... alone. Of course I'm not compensating for the wear and tear on a vehicle which they equate on newer cars be approximately 8 cents a mile, but that really is irrelevant.
What would be a good spot halfway Nathan?
Otherwise, I can always just send you the money for postage. Do you have a paypal account ?
I got the power supply from Clok1966 and I haven't tested it yet, but I'm hoping it works. If not, I'll just give my working one until I can fix the old one. That is the last required piece. I now the full two computer set ups. Now all that is need is to coordinate with Dr. Barton on a time to either meet him halfway or identify another way to get the items to him.
