I don't know either, but some of the developers I've talked to has said it's suicide to put anything on iOS for more than $5. You don't go to a market where everybody expects something to be free, balks at $1, thinks $2 is a rip-off, and anything beyond that had better be solid gold.

I know i hear the same thing.. so how can they "afford" to do this? they cant on the PC... Maybe I'm missing big picture, on pc they sell 300,000 units at $19 and on iOS, they sell 1,200,000 units at $5 so it evens out? I do understand economics.. if you only sell so much on the PC you need to charge more. I also get.. made for the PC, you port for a small enough amount you dont need to sell as much to make it worth your while.. There are alot of GOOD reasons for this.. but as the numbers seem so "secret" i tend to lean towards.. "we can screw the PC guys, we cant screw the phone guys"..

this is what Im interested in.. I know far to many products that are sold at $XX for a singel reason, we pay it.. its been that way forever. Of course we are as much to fualt for that as the companies.. we keep buying at stupid prices they will keep selling them that way. And that is my soul reason for wondering this..

By the way, I just downloaded

By the way, I just downloaded Walking Dead Episodes 1 and 2 full versions for free on the PlayStation 3 because I'm a PlayStation Plus member. It continues to be a great value...

Random thought

To explain SOME level of price difference, here's what I'm pondering:

IPad: This means ONE marketplace. Every Apple-owner goes HERE for their game content, essentially. Though they brag about "100,000+" different titles, a lot of that is knock-offs and junk. Still though, it's ONE place, and a finite number of categories. So all eyes are here, there is less competition in terms of sheer numbers, so they get more "sell through per visit".

PC: Thousands of disparate marketplaces. Easier to get lost in the shuffle because of the much larger number of titles/options/other-things competing for eyeballs. To recoup dev costs, the price has to be higher, because of lower # of visits, lower # of "sell through". Plus as Bill brought up, the ability to customize/mod on the PC, so that becomes a justification for a price-hike too. It may also be that they spend more time & money on tech-support on PC's, because of the huge number of H/W configuration--one version on IPad bascially runs on 99.9% of IPads, so fewer headaches.

This may be totally off-base though... I'm still curious what they're thinking. I could see a 2X price for the PC, but 4X? That's way too much.

Yes, im really interested in

Yes, im really interested in this. A game designed for the PC and ported to iOS ... i am trying to understand this. the Game was budgeted and paid for by PC sales (assumption on my part, maybe Phones where in the "big picture" fromt he start?) I would guess most games nowdays are "if sales are good, other devices" But many have to depend on just one platform and I'm usre are designed to be that way. My point is.. why more on PC? If its the same game.. Phne games are simply priced lower, its a fact and that market wont bear $19.99 games.. or so they seem to have accepted. If it just established prices it seems awfull silly for us to be paying $19.99 on the pc. if this is the case.. I wont support it.. Even though I liked the first one.. I just wont support the "charge it cuz they will pay it" model.. need to look more into this i guess..

I'll be curious about this too, since all of the previous mainstream adventure games I've seen have had all the same features/content (same game). Certainly Baldur's Gate will be less than half the price on iPad as it is for the PC version, for the same game and feature-set, though I don't know if you'll be able to use mod's on the iPad version (I'd personally doubt it). Yet another reason why smartphones and tablets are a danger to traditional videogame models...
