I had the rare opportunity last night to go see Batman when it opened at midnight here in Saint Cloud.

I watched the other two in theaters, too, and enjoyed both of them, especially the second one. This one has some good stuff, too. I especially liked Catwoman (who wouldn't, really?) and the villain Bane, though he's no Joker. Still, his appearances are interesting and his dialog not as predictable as you think.

Some of the writing is pretty bad, to be honest. I think the worst is one of those moments when everything goes quiet and you get the feeling that some awesome one-liner is coming up. Bane says something like, "So, you came back to the city to die?" And Batman just says, "No, I came to beat you" or something equally banal. Apparently wit is not in this utility belt this go round (man I miss Adam West!) The only person who does get some good lines in this is Catwoman.

Unfortunately, it looks like the shooting in Colorado during one of the openings will probably consume all the publicity and possibly ruin the ticket sales. At least, I can imagine a lot of paranoid mothers forbidding their kids from going to watch it.

I have never been a HUGE superHero comic reader but the Dark Knight (the anti hero batman that alan moore created and revitilzed batman, thouhg Bane was created by Dixon) drew me back for several years.. Killing joke and Bane where probebly the best of that period. As I havent seent he movie yet I'm not sure how true to the original they where with Bane (but as i know who the big stars in teh movie are i think Bane is being used differnlty then the comics, and thats alright). I do wonder as you say the dialog was crap.. Bane's big 'draw" was he was smart (pretty much the same level as batman) and ...-drumroll- Stronger, take more damage type guy .. in effect better then batman. batman useds gadgets, Bane used drugs (venom)...

I've never seen the comic book version of Bane, only the animated versions, but this isn't the same character. For one, he doesn't use venom to get super strength, he just is super strong. He isn't the goody idiot from batman forever, but he's not quite a sophisticated genius.

I liked this movie more than the second, which was too long with too many themes for my taste, but probably not quite as much as the first. I do like how they tie this story back to the earlier movies. I recommend watching it.

yes at one time Bane and batman "team up" ... if I remeber right.. Bane went GOOD so to speak (kill a few people in comics and the superhero will let you go if your "good") in the comic world I belive BANE is currnlty GOOD and helped batman and disappered basicly saying I want to start over. As I say, not aSUPERHERO comic reader. i kinda forgot about batman and Bane after the first issues. I would guess the VENOM thing is to DRUG related so had to be taken out to be PC (BOO HISS!) part of his charm was the depenance on it and the struggles.. Dont get me wrong showing Drugs (bad? drugs?) doing anything posative is not good.. but its a comic for petes sake.. if your reading Batman you should be of an age to judge drugs in some sane way.

MY thoughts...

In regards to the tragic event allow me to simply re-post what I posted on Facebook:

Regarding the recent senseless and horrific killings at the Dark Knight Rises midnight premiere in Colorado. In a thread about it on a forums I gave my thoughts and addressed the inevitable focus and scrutiny that media (Comics / Videogames / Movies) will once again fall under as the news media and society will once again be looking for the "easy answer" to why these things happen, here is my post:

A deranged mind is a deranged mind and the intent to kill or cause chaos/destruction will be fulfilled by that person by one means or another despite any measurements taken or the banning of any particular media. I get so sick of people jumping on the band wagon to try to lay blame on this or that, society wants desperately to find an easy and simple solution, this method gets renwewed over and over. It's that damned Rock n Roll, it's satanic messages in Metal music, it's videogames / movies / books / television / blah blah blah blah........

Enough already, guess what? The person was "not right" in the head and even though these types are often actually highly intelligent for whatever reason (abusive childhood, chemical imbalance, off their meds etc) they fall into a state of mind where they come to a point as this individual did, if the BATMAN RISES MOVIE, COMICS, VIDEO GAMES did not exist more than likely he would of done a similar thing at a different venue, might of been at a crowded transit station or Celine Dion concert who knows?

If we lived in a society where all media, events, arts, etc were all banned or highly regulated we would STILL have drug addicts, rapists, sex offenders, psychopaths, sociopaths, molesters, etc. Because a sick and deranged mind is a sick and deranged mind and it will see the evil and hear the voices and receive the impulses to do horrible things whether they are reading a comic, watching a horror film, or watching the THE SOUND OF MUSIC for the fiftieth time or they are just staring at a fly on a blank wall.

Anytime a person tries to blame a particular thing like comics / movies / games etc, I just think whatever, it is not like mindless acts of violence and total irrational killings didn't exist or happen before the creation of those particular media, it all happened long before and will continue long after such things are available. In a hundred years we will see the news about the seemingly normal person who went in a HoloDeck simulation, over rode the safety protocols and killed the real people visiting the simulation with Phaser blasts set to kill. Then of course will come the public outcry to BAN ALL HOLODECKS !!!!! Humans are flawed, sadly some more than others and in some cases no amount of help, therapy, drugs, support etc, is going to prevent a tragic end result.

Yeah, I can't wait to hear

Yeah, I can't wait to hear that BAtman "caused" him to snap. Poppycock.

I just wonder whether these guys ate genetically defective or is this a result of abuse of some kind?

At first i didnt think it was

At first i didnt think it was a big deal (well let me rephrase that, anytime people die stupidly its a big deal), but it was just random, he picked the most people, it just happned to be batman... but now it sounds like he was saying he was the JOker... so its actually tied to the movie.. not just a big crowd. just sad all around, all the people gone, and he will sit and live with that behind bars forever ( dont hteink they have the death penlty ).. so anybody who lost someone will have to know he is behind bars too.. for some that is enough.. but some it wont be.,. just extra pain.

its one of those things you wonder, they say (the early stuff I read so far) that there where mnot any signs.. i find it hard to believe.. but people do just snap. I hate that it was comics.. games.. we are going to hear about that forever now.. he had isues ..work on that part.. not where he focused his issues.. not an excuse.

I was discussing that bit with Christina yesterday. She seems to be under the same impression. I'm on the fence about its effect, but if it does hurt movie ticket sales early on, it may mean more people will either see it over time (once they feel comfortable again) giving it a longer theatrical run (a slow burn, if you will), or it will do better business at home than usual.

It's not that bad, but the

It's not that bad, but the more I think about it, Batman and Bruce are probably the two least interesting characters in this one. Bane has some good presence, but the voice distortion is bad enough to make him unintelligible.
I always thought the growl or gruff batman voice was cringe inducing. I actually think it would be better if he just never spoke. That voice is 100% cheese.

I have never been a HUGE

I have never been a HUGE superHero comic reader but the Dark Knight (the anti hero batman that alan moore created and revitilzed batman, thouhg Bane was created by Dixon) drew me back for several years.. Killing joke and Bane where probebly the best of that period. As I havent seent he movie yet I'm not sure how true to the original they where with Bane (but as i know who the big stars in teh movie are i think Bane is being used differnlty then the comics, and thats alright). its to bad.. Nolan knows good dialgue, as th Joker proved in the lat movie. he knows dark, he knopws how to keep the story moving.. But Batman in his movies is some unknown version of batman... the growl was suposedly Bales idea.. and while it doesnt bother me much.. the lack of any real dialogue when in batman form is sad (in the first 2 movies).. bane should have allowed some great back and forth.

I will go.. but not for a few weeks.. I just went to Promethus a week or so ago ( and loved it.. all the friends where dispointed). recently got hooked on Falling skies.. far to cheaply made , good story, bad special effect.. and i can live with teh bad effects.. but they need more of them.. the show is good, just adding a little more ZING to it..far to short a first season.

I'm really behind. I was never a TV watcher, I didnt start watching anything regualer on TV till DEXTER on showtime.. now there is so much to watch.. so much good stuff.. The Sapronos was awsome, ROME, DEADWOOD, heck I even liked Carnival ALOT! (sad its gone, that show had some awsome possibilities).. Torchwood, Eureka, The NEW Dr WHO ( i liked the old too.. but I can see where some think its complete cheese) Red Dwarf (ok i watched this on bootleg vhs a long time ago along with Blakes 7). Reaper, Psych, burn notice, ... netflix is going ot kill me.. Been trying my darndest to get a good Torrent of Castle....

and to leave you with a cool nugget of Movie/tv trivia if you read this far.. Alien Resurection was wrote by Joss Whedon.. did you know that (I didnt, and I liked it.. not one most do like).. Joss says the movei is true to what he wrote, but alot of dialouge was suposed to be far more cheeky.. and it was done way to dark for his liking. Afterwords he made FIREFLY!!!! teh Betty (ship in Aliens resurection) was its insperation.. as was the crew of the Betty.. insperation for Firefly.. the dialogue in Aliens was suposed to be more like Firefly.. So a movie people dont like created Firefly in a way.
