With all the attention of the CRPG community focused on Diablo III, I thought it only fitting to give a retrospective on the 1996 game that launched the franchise--the original Diablo! Reducing the complex CRPG gameplay mechanics to utter simplicity, Blizzard offered up a mesmerizing clickfest that's enjoyed by thousands today. It also introduced "Battle.net," a value-add that allowed groups of players to co-op or compete online--for free!

Actually, Warcraft 2 is on

Actually, Warcraft 2 is on PlayStation as well, but in that case, I'll be the 1st to agree that the PC version was superior.

Consoles just don't have the right controls for real time strategy. However, there are some decent turn-based strategy games on consoles, but none recently that I can recall. Unfortunately, turn-based strategy has been dying over the years on all platforms.

I've been having the

I've been having the controller vs. keyboard/mouse argument over Tera with both my friend and my brother. They're playing with controllers, which they always claim is vastly superior to keyboard/mouse for everything. I tried it out for awhile but quickly found it cumbersome. While I liked being able to "kick back" and play from a relaxed position, moving the pointer with the controller feels horrible. For the love of God, they really dropped the ball on that...Would've been so easy just to snap the arrow around instead of trying to emulate a mouse.

man.. what did i just say? no

man.. what did i just say? no rts by bliz and then list the ones they have (on consoles).. Blizz was quite active in console right up till the HUGE success of Warcraft III and WOW.

I am very interested in seeing diablo on the PS1 myslef.. but not for the ebay prices im seeing WOW! Im very anti console for some games, but there may be something to the control for it.. the mouse seems very "normal" to me.. but I must admit for movement the joystikc might be a good thing.. I never liked the click to move stuff of diblo. the clones all let me map keyboard movemnt.. but in the isometric view i must admit i didnt like that much either so the click my just simply be the best way to do it.. i was going to order it for the PS but again.. not for $50...

I miss the 90s...

Blizzard is master of making a easy product to use, turn a addiction, a simple and enjoyable experience.

Diablo has a great climate, bleak, but I'm liking the new Diablo 3, just hate the cartoonish style sometimes.. but have a good tatical touch be more colorful, the huge quantity of WoW users, is of a generation after the 90s, is atractive the new Diablo.

If you look the creature design, the new Diablo reminds a modern Zerg Warrior, with more bone structure and biped.

Good review Matt.

Quick summary

At first Diablo isnt rpg, i dont see here any roleplay, is only uograded (year 96) version of arcades as Golden Axe.

Summary:
Diablo - very good for dark atmosfere, should be much depeer, but is good enough.

Diablo II - first complex isometric combat system, complex even for warrior like character, for example they finally runs.
Atmosfere, except good cinematics, isnt goog, because, they was greedy.. they wanted have black hero, stupid paladin with auras, desert, snow moutains.. combined in one game.. this is never good idea, be too greedy is bad. Art style is average.

Diablo III - Art style is awfully colorful, this is spit into face of first installment. Combat design is probably better than second installment(in single, but bad in multiplayer, where is everything based on stupid pro coperative unrealistic auro crapp), because, stupid potions disappear, no more straw directly in backpack.

Who: Brujah Zealot, the pimp of babylons bitch. / Location: Scorched heart of Europe. // Sorry for my moldavian sort of english, i have 2 possibilities, to be silent or try to say something +look like idiot..
