Hey, Clok, yeah, you're right

Hey, Clok, yeah, you're right about FF. Don't know what I was thinking calling it a Diablo clone! In any case, it's a lot of fun.

I guess I haven't played many straight-up Diablo clones. I have Sacred and lots of other ones sitting around here that I never got into. I did enjoy Dungeon Siege 1 but got bored and quit the second one. A lot of them seem like single-player WOW clones to me; I just don't get grinding for loot in these games.

I got one here called Restricted Area that I bought a couple years ago in a sale. I'm not ever sure it'd work with Windows 7, but I've meaning to give it a spin.

I had a friend in college who'd play Diablo multiplayer all night long. He was really into the cheats for it...I remember he'd get livid when they'd release a punkbuster or whatever and make his unauthorized equipment go away. I *still* have no clue why he found any of that entertaining! But undeniably, it was a huge thrill for him.

It's funny, but Warcraft and Starcraft never really hooked me either. I played them all and enjoyed them to some extent, but just nothing like what I've seen in other gamers. I guess I just lack that gene or chromosome that makes me super competitive with this stuff. I just want to get through the game, enjoy the experience, and move on. Not interested in grinding a dungeon 500 times to get a super weapon.

I wouldnt call that a Diablo clone.. more a Xcom, jagged Aliance Clone.. as its turn based combat, not real time.. but Great game to mention. I recently repicked them up on STEAM and played throuhg the first one with plans to hit the second.. but STEAM in its evil way showcases so many game on sale or that i havent seen i always buy one more.. and am so far behind... heaven or hell for the gamer? So many game you want to play, seems like heaven.. but I'm starting to have the issues i did when i set a MAME cab up.. unlimited arcade games that are free.. for some reason games that I dont strugle to pay for are so easily dismissed. PacMan may have pretty much blown on the 2600.. but dang I mastered it, it was new and games where months apart in those days.. I recently saw a "games worse then ET" story.. and pacman, Stellar Trek, And Laser Blast where all on the list.. laser blast (reflections now) quite bad.. but when i played it when it was new.. it was.. great to me.. I am pretty sure i have the activison patch for it.. And Stellar Track!!!! Strategy on the 2600 on a failry deep level (for that system is was very intricate).... i played the crap out of good and bad games.. i found reasons to love um all.. Now..

First batman game.. AWSOME! played it non stop till i won, then cranked up the diffuclty and did it again. new batman which is pretty much considered an even better game.. 3-4 hours.. i was thinking about other games.

Well one thing is for sure,

Well one thing is for sure, Its DIABLO.. so if that inst your cup of tea. The one thing i see they are doing (or read) is a Auction House like WOW, but its going to use real money that Bliz is going ot take a cut of. My understanding is the GREAT items are going to be a bit more disireble.. not like the old game where you just grind the high levels for hours till the random number generator strikes gold. This move strikes me as a money grab (if its true, the article I read was kinda scetchy and Im not sure it was true).

but as you mention, the Diablo game style is getting old, there are so many now. titan Quest was quite good, but something was missing from it.. great graphics, good gameplay, i think they missed it a bit on the skill tree's.. Overload is the word that comes to mind. Torchlight was fun, but even on the hardest setting way to easy (i think).. I know i played its MMO version (mythos, the OLD one, not the current one) alot though. And there are quite a few Indie versions that lack the grarphics, but more hten make up for it in skill and vision.

Sacred
Devine Divinity
Dungoen Seige
Reverant
Loki
Depths of peril
fate _oroginal before mythos and Torchlight

and several non american ones.. harder to play at puzzles.. but thankfully most can be muddled through without reading (i wonder how much you miss without story? on an action game?)
Prince of Qin
Blade and Sword
Seal of evil

I'm sure im missing some.. but I did enjoy these type of games.. and yes Im trying to stick with the pure diablo clones so stuff like NOX is not in the mix.

personally the best (indy) is Din's Curse.. crude but quite fun.

I burned out on the genre

I burned out on the genre after playing Darkstone (pre Diablo 2). I'm passing on Diablo 3; it doesn't seem to do anything differently enough to make me want to pay for the new window dressing. I'm slightly more interested in Torchlight 2 because it's user-modifiable and cheaper, but it'll have to get pretty cheap before I plunk down my money.

I was in beta.. i think

I was in beta.. i think anbody with a WoW account could be in it.. i did a first thoughts here a bit ago.. I think it grew on me.. the gameplay is VERY diablo.. in fact they changed it up so little its amazing... but it still feels fun. I dont think I was so excited when i did my first look, but the more I played the more I liked.. but the game had SOME AWFUL lagg issues.. and even trying it a few weeks ago, they where not gone.. how can they think they will be gone at release with 100X the players? The graphics are slick.. and not in a "wow cutting edge" way.. but a almot Painted feel to them.. once again Blizzard doenst do something new (several game have had the painted look).. they just friggin excel at copying sombody else idea.. I really liked the look, the monsters look good also. They have found a few clever ways to change it up (moster attacks).. overall the Bliz polish there. The game feels and looks like some love hasbeen put into it..

if it plays without lag its worth it I think (i got it for free with a 1 year sub to WoW)

But what Im really excited about is my Closee Beta Invite to Secret World!.. more on that later.

Meh.I played the first two

Meh.

I played the first two and enjoyed them, but not as much as I did stuff like Planescape and Fallout. Looking at the Diablo 3 stuff, it seems like a half-hearted effort, frankly, kinda like Starcraft 2. It's going to make a nice little pot or cash for a company with really nothing to lose, and that's about it. They're not going to take any big risks at this point. No leaps, just a happy little trip to the bank.

I'd rather just play Diablo 2 and just pretend the graphics are "sick" and save myself $60.

I'm not necessarily looking

I'm not necessarily looking forward to it in the traditional sense, but I did pre-order the Collector's Edition. Seemed like a nice package.
