Just recently started playing through this again (via playstation 3 emulation) and wow still as engrossing as always. Although somewhat trickyier than I remember no-doubt due to the fact that I haven't played it for so long. So in your opinion does the game still stand the test of time, Is it a good example of a strategy game even to this day?
What did they do right and wrong with the design choices?
On another subject I see they're two new Xcom games coming out an FPS (can't ever have enough of those) and well a reboot of the original.
I have Terror From The Deep, but yet to play it. Baffling considering my like of the first game. I keep saying I'll devote some time to play it but I never seem to. Although something tells me I should.
Probebly the best Strategy games ever. I have played through one and two several times.
As for right: for its day, almost everything. Leveling, research, and #1- FAIR- turn based combat.
wrong: the multi level stuff is clunky and not very smart. While I love the combat, its overly hard to start with and can turn off alot of players. I also found once i had my team leveled and using good equipment combat got to easy. SO I think combat shouldhave been slighlty easier to start... mid game its perfect, and harder at end.
Healing was a bit tough, and poorly implemented.. it not only takes one team meber out of combat it takes out 2. the person down and the person who has to go to them and heal. And most of the healing is early in game when combat is hard.
Grenades- WIN! i resort to grenades over almost anything early game to survive.. (is that bad? not sure, but when you resort to it almost exclussivly it must be OP)
looking forward to the strat xcom, heck I like FPS, so even that one if its done well.
