Number 8Number 8Do you have ideas for Armchair Arcade's new logo? Do you know someone who would like to design a logo for us to look at? What follows are some very rough ideas of our own. It would be great if we could all work together to see what we like and dislike about various concepts and ideas. As we get closer to issue 8 and our first print issue, it's important we finalize a really clever logo design. The only requirement is that like the current placeholder logo, it has "Armchair" on top and "Arcade" on the bottom, and we're allowed to use it for any purpose without restriction. Bonus points for "Videogames and Computers" under the logo. Of course it needs to be a high resolution original file, preferably vector, or something we could recreate ourselves if it's not. Bonus points from me if it can somehow relay that we're about both Videogames AND Computers, and bonus, bonus points tying together classic, modern and future. If videogame-like characters could somehow interact with the Logo, even better, though they'd have to be original for us to use them. While we can't give anything away at this time, we'll give full credit for full usage rights and maybe something like a signed copy of our first print issue. Thanks!

So, let's hear comments about these logos, your own ideas, or link to your own submissions. We'll start to pare them down and continue this discussion with a new round and additional choices, sort of like a logo "survivor". Thanks for the help and be sure to participate!

Ahh Videogames and

Ahh Videogames and Computers...I can easily reverse it. It's an honor to even get to this point; no matter where we go with this I want to tell Dragon and all the other submitters that they were terrific.

Making it look professional..

You're trying to say too much through your logo. Forget about gimmicks, photos and stuff. It's always best to keep it simple. Think of great logos: Wired, LucasArts.. Concentrate on a catchy, memorable color scheme (very important) and a nice font. Scale your logo down & see it still works. You want it to be readable on business cards & letterheads.

Good Advice

Ah the words of wisdom! Seb, where the heck is your entry for the contest? :-) I'm expecting to see some fantastic design that's so memorable it will sear itself into my brain and stick there permanently like the theme to the Beverly Hillbillies.

I did find out about Inkscape, a free vector graphics program. It might help you guys do the vector graphics thing without having to spend any cash, assuming you don't already have such ware.

The photos on the right side

The photos on the right side are for use on the website, t-shirts, promos, etc. The Logo is actually the part that says "Armchair Arcade."

We want to convey that we cover the 3 facets of gaming: Classical, PC and modern Console. Hence the classic joystick, ubiquitous keyboard and modern controller.

Idea For Armchair Arcade's New Logo

Hello from NY:
I will throw in my vote for number 8. Because, I believe it would embody all machines of game playing. It is big and bold. You're looking at a circuit board, that can be any machine a person loves playing on. Like, for me, I enjoy any playing machine or emulator, just as long the game is enjoyable to play. I notice some of the other logos incorporate certain machines, that some people might not like and this has caused controversy over the use of certain machines.

The only concern I have with

The only concern I have with number 8 is that: Is Joe Blow from Small Town, USA going to realize that it is a PCB board? Do they even know what a PCB board is? While it is a very good concept, I'm afraid the execution may come across as "That big green text with stuff in it."

Again, I do like number 8, but hope the reference will not get lost on the average Joe. We of course are trying to market it to a conventional audience...

Joe Blow...

Is Joe Blow from Small Town, USA going to realize that it is a PCB board?

If Joe Blow's going out of his way to check out "Armchair Arcade" in the first place, he might have an idea... at the very least he'll understand the logo as "computery looking"...
