Help Us Select Armchair Arcade's New Logo

[NOTE: This will be updated as new entries are submitted!]
Number 8Number 8Do you have ideas for Armchair Arcade's new logo? Do you know someone who would like to design a logo for us to look at? What follows are some very rough ideas of our own. It would be great if we could all work together to see what we like and dislike about various concepts and ideas. As we get closer to issue 8 and our first print issue, it's important we finalize a really clever logo design. The only requirement is that like the current placeholder logo, it has "Armchair" on top and "Arcade" on the bottom, and we're allowed to use it for any purpose without restriction. Bonus points for "Videogames and Computers" under the logo. Of course it needs to be a high resolution original file, preferably vector, or something we could recreate ourselves if it's not. Bonus points from me if it can somehow relay that we're about both Videogames AND Computers, and bonus, bonus points tying together classic, modern and future. If videogame-like characters could somehow interact with the Logo, even better, though they'd have to be original for us to use them. While we can't give anything away at this time, we'll give full credit for full usage rights and maybe something like a signed copy of our first print issue. Thanks!

So, let's hear comments about these logos, your own ideas, or link to your own submissions. We'll start to pare them down and continue this discussion with a new round and additional choices, sort of like a logo "survivor". Thanks for the help and be sure to participate!

Well, whatever Vector format

Well, whatever Vector format you want (I have Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator and Corel Draw, so I should be able to handle anything). Even a super hi-res PSD file would be fine. Obviously don't bother do the hi-res version until we decide on a final version.

Definitely do one version on a white background and one a black. Whatever you think works. You got this far, so keep up whatever you think.

Thank You guys for your

Thank You guys for your generous comments. I think it would be good to combine elements of 12 & 13. We def want something that will draw the users in. I will make revisions tonight and upload them here.

Thanks again for the kind words.

Well, definitely keep yours

Well, definitely keep yours distinct, Mike. It's good as-is, but certainly tweaks would be appreciated indepedent of the other finalist. If you create something too different, it goes back as a new entry to vote.

New version for white bg

Here is a new version. My thinking is the image on the left would be the main logo and the right part would be for the right most part of the header.

Black bg version

Here is a version for a black background. Again, any of the colors can be changed quite easily. I can push up the visibility of the newspaper as well if needed.

Very nice, though I think I

Very nice, though I think I like the yellow better over the blue (the blue makes the white border look too huge), though I'm not sure how that would work on the black. I think yellow is a nice departure from the norm. Can we work a keyboard in there somehow? What about something different besides a brain? Anyone else have any thoughts?

Here is one with a keyboard in place of the brain.

Black with keyboard

Here is the black bg version. Replacing the blue letters with yellow doesn't work very well. There isn't enough contract between the white and yellow. I replaced the blue with yellow and the white with a shade of grey. Let me know if this is closer.

Well, the white background

Well, the white background one to me is a winner. Perhaps a slightly lighter shade of grey on the black background one? (somehow the border overpowers the text more with the black background?!?) I like the keyboard, though maybe we should see the keys a bit more (maybe a more extreme angle?). Also, maybe shrink the "Present" controller a bit to fit within the circle more as the others do? In any case, my opinion is that your entry is more than competitive for round 2 and I'd be quite pleased with it if it were voted the winner.

Once Mike Gupta finishes his revisions, I think we can have the final shootout. After that, we can do final tweaks. Really great work, by the way, no matter who wins. I'd love to figure a way to utilize both finalists...

I like the new designs,

I like the new designs, Dragon. The only thing that's got me looking sideways is the orientation of the newspaper in the background. It looks like it's distorting somehow...? It's kind of hard to tell what's going on, but it looks messed up a bit, as though it were folding.

Also, as long as you're doing a keyboard, might as well go with a cool looking Saitek keyboard. What do you think, Bill? I really like the way mine looks!
