I too like the later years..

I prefer the SciFi years mostly. Space Mutiny being one of my favorite episodes. Although there were plenty others also.

Oh, I certainly get the

Oh, I certainly get the impression that there's no specific ill will between any of them, as, as you say, they all seem to work together on one thing or another. I guess I just find it disappointing that instead of keeping the teams together they all go off and do almost the same thing separately. It doesn't seem particularly productive. With that said, I guess each new angle on the old theme has their pluses and minuses, so it may simply be a matter of one team preferring one over the other.

And yes, clearly Joel regretted leaving and he even admitted that he expected the show to tank once he left. I think his lack of another "hit" also took some of the lustre off of leaving. With that said, Joel himself said he never particularly cared for being in front of camera, and you could certainly see that by his awkward acting. Mike is clearly the better performer, though they both have their charms.

In any case, all selfishly care about is that I not only have access to most of the old stuff, but new stuff too as the mood strikes me. It's certainly special that all MSTies are still actively doing their thing long after their show was canned and/or they left for "greener" pastures...

Yes there is much talk in the

Yes there is much talk in the MST3K world on the Joel/ Mike thing.. I must admit I think the later years are the best, but i think not only the talent but time had put the right things in place.. Joel was alwasy a dry humour.. I always felt he was a bit "geekier" then Mike. that can be good and bad.. I hate to say it but I think Joel got the raw end of the deal.. but sadly I think its almost all his own doing. he was the major creative start to it (but he has publicly stated the insperation for it was shows that did the same thing in obscure markets, so it wasnt like he created it) and helped it achive the success it had. but I think in his case he felt h could move onto bigger and better things ( and it did help that he was offered work on SNL as a writer).. so in effect he did move onto bigger and better things.. but .. as with many things.. I think it didnt work out.. he did several things which as far as I know had some critical love, but little commercial love. By that time MST3K was big stuff.. and the old saying "you can never go home again" might have been quite true.. Im sure a few bridges where burned, contracts where signed etc.. no way back..I'm sure (as you mentioned) some ego too.

Joel did the first show, he alos did the first None MST3k shows.. (before riff trax) that in no way makes it better.. personaly of the stuff i have seen the Riff traxs are my prefrence.. but suprisingly the really only difference is 2 things.. one has Mike and does modern movies with the old cast, the other has Joel and does Old obscure movies with the old cast (almost all the same cast members do both sides.. about the only ones who dont work both sides are Joel and Mike).

Both Joel and Mike have publicy brown nosed the others work, and as far as I can tell have no ill will towards each other.. but like and Ex husband (or wife) meetign the current one.. its just gotta be awkward. Only one quarterback on each team plays.. the other is a BACKUP..

HUGE (understatement) MS3k fan.. So much that I actually seen Joel's comedy act before the show a couple times in the twin cities. Back in the late 80's ealy 90's we went and saw it being filmed one time. I have several things signed by the guys and.. yes even have some stuff from the show. And all the Bootlegs from the original show (that nobody can reprint) and all the rest too on DVD or .. other ways. I know Joel was in the DARKSTAR (movie game Matt has talked about) and he does the MST3k thing still , but live.. Cinema Titanic i think its called ( they have DVD's too) I know i went to a show In twin cities about 4 years ago (vampire blood?) it was a blast. The Riff Trax guys also do live shows (sorta) they have had 2 in Fargo ND here.. they show the movie and comment live over the net ( so they are not in the theater but can hear it and such).. fun too.. I am a sucker for this stuff ever since John Candy did it so awsomely in Armed and Dangerous (which was before the MSTstuff.. but .. it had been done many times before too Im sure). I didnt know they did video games too..

I think this is their first videogame riff and it's a one-off. I don't like how one group started Cinematic Titanic and the other group Rifftrax, but I can certainly see this being a case of too many egos/talents in one place to contain them all, which is probably why the cast changes on MST3K were relatively frequent. Still, you'd think together they could create another series and truly kick ass, even rotating riffers.

My "allegiance" is with the Rifftrax guys--I think MST3K actually hit its high point for me with the Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett, and Kevin Murphy combo, along with the Pearl/Bobo/Brain Guy storylines. It went out on top.

I too have some signed stuff and other things from the fan club. I was a big fan from shortly after they went on Ha/The Comedy Channel (eventually Comedy Central) and followed them over to the Sci-Fi channel. I still watch them regularly on Netflix during lunch on my iPad 2. It's a great way to pass the time.
