END of year, best game you played?

SO, what was the game you played this year that was released in 2011 that was the most fun? Console or PC or phone?

PS3:Dark Souls
360:none stick out
PC: World Of tanks
Phone: none stood out, i did play Angery birds a bit.. but I dont consider it a great game.. good.. but not great.

I have spent way more time then any sane man should in World of Tanks, so much I jumped to a preumium player (actuyally pay to play!). I am getting close to 1300 battles..

I love the stratgy it takes.. no more COD lone gunman sniper crap.. You dont use your team as a TEAM you lose.. and this game is one of the few that the players seem to understand it (most of the time). I really suggest giving it a try, simple to play and hard to master. I did get alot of time in Beyond Devinity too.. but .. while i enjoyed it alot it just not a JUMP OUT game. With my PC gaming addiciton one would think i would have lots.. and I did really like alot of games. BUT the fact is one hooked me far more then any other. Skyrim has held me long and hard, but WoT was alwasy being played.. even in the heat of Skyrim I would log an hour or two here and there in WoT...I am a sucker for REALTIME team games against real enemies.

I completed Mario Galaxy this

I completed Mario Galaxy this year and have since started Mario Galaxy 2 - best game I've played this year no doubt at all.

The sheer scale of variety of ideas is amazing - it's hard to see how it could be topped in its genre.

Not a "this year" game I know but as usual I'm a bit behind the times - a PS3 will be making an appearance ay my home soon....looking forward to sampling Little Big Planet (1or2) and the HD remakes of Ico and Shadow of the Collosus.

I find the PS3 exclusives a bit better then there counterparts as most are RPG's (but that opinion only)... Drakes Fortune are all very good (great games IMHO), I still think they are the closest thing to "playing a movie" out there. The rachet and Clank games .. kids love um ( and so do I) Little Big planet had me hooked for several days.. I have not tried 2. DEMONS SOULS!!!!! my SINGLE favorite game of the last 3-4 years (of all games, all platforms) but its very much a thinking mans hack and slash.. not a common thing to combine.. thinking with swordplay.. this game engine with a STAR WARS Jedi backdrop would be an INSTANT best Seller. Heavy Rain was great I thought but I hesitate to recomend it as its such a specific gameplay that its a love of hate game. GOD of WAR III has one of the most incredible opening scenes in any video game I have ever seen (again opinion).. as Im such a huge fan of fanatsy/action and nothing does it better then the old Greek Gods and the Titans assulting OLyuimpus. But game play.. unless you like the mindless fun of hack and slash (i do) its pretty average game. 3D Dot HERO'S is a very cool throwback to old games I thouhgt (check a youtube video out) and its cheap I loved every minute of it. Heavenly sword was a blast, but WAY TO SHORT. LAIR the dragon riding game that was panned in reviews was actually quite fun I thouhgt.. thouhg some of the complaints where very valid (some huge crappy graphics when in areas they never expected you to go).. alos dirt cheap. Valkyria Chronicles might be this generations BEST RPG (again OPINION!) its a bit of a departure as its GUNS, but its 100% strategy and turn based.

Then there are all the lesser known ones: WHite Knight (both one and two, but I have only played One) the Atelier series ( 3, all RPG's), Last Rebllion (a rpg where you actually attack specific body parts which changed the battles, I liked it but not one many others did (again, to much thinking involved in combat seems to throw off people i guess). Fokelore is a quirky Action RPG... hard to describe, maybe thats why i like it. I wont mention much about he exclusive FPS.. Resistance and Killzone are both (IMHO) as good as any other.. but no better.. and MAG is pretty impressive, but its ment to be played as a team game.. and we all know team gaming is not a strong point of the FPS shooter crowd.

as for cross platform, if it was made before the last 6 months or so I would sugget picking it up on the 360 (but really even before that while puasing screens sometimes showed the 360 was better, it was doubtfull you would notice in game ever, but better is better), but anytime after mid summer both machines are pretty much a wash on look now, one has btter shadows, one has better colors, one has XXX one has ,YYY.. the people making the ports now are pretty much on par for both systems now.

personally Drakes Fortune, DEMONS SOULS, and Valkyria Chronicles are some of the best games i have played on any sytem in the last few years.. and made my PS3 almost worth its very overpirced purchase.

It might seem a bit odd but

It might seem a bit odd but the PS3 is actually being bought primarily as a digital TV/Bluray player/TV-on-demand box. It just happens to offer some rather nice games too :)

I'm actually quite looking forward to playing the downloadable versions of Kula World and Daytona on it more than any of the modern stuff.

I'm having a major blast

I'm having a major blast right now doing co-op on Portal 2 via Steam. My brother is playing with me, so that's a bonus, since he lives so far away.

Probably my favorite 360 experience has been Gears of War 3, at least among the new games. I did enjoy some older ones I hadn't played before. Fable 2 was a fun one. I also enjoyed Red Dead Redemption but eventually got bored with it, but a very solid 4 hours or so.

On PC...I guess I'd have to give WOW another go as #1. True, I'm burned out on it and don't play ATM, but that could change.

Tell you the truth, I'm having a lot more fun MAKING games that I have playing them lately.

In the last 3 months I picked

In the last 3 months I picked up a Slim PS3 and then a 360 for my bedroom, kinda for waht you mention, a media player as my ROKU box died. As soon as I did I found myslef playing way more then I did in my livingroom, so soon i picked up a 360 too. I prefer the ps3, not sure why, as when you really compare them they both work quite well, but I used Tversity to stream and it just 'seems' to work better on the PS3, it may just be in my head but that is my assesment. I do know one spot i like it more. I have a very early 42" LCD tv in my bedroom, it was 1080I onley ( this tv is OLD, someof the first 42" LCD to come out, i think its like 7 years old) not 1080P, my new slim 360 doesnt like it so it only outputs 720P, but the PS3 does 1080I not soemthing I can even notice to tell the truth.. but much like most things, if you "think" you can see a difference , even if you cant .. you think you do.

I still recomend Drake, Demons Souls and Valkyria Chronicles, you should be able to pick all 3 up for under $50 total (for all three) used or on sale.. and if you are a RPG nut like me.. the Wizardry Store game.. its about as OLD SCHOOL as it gets..

Does the PS3 have a web

Does the PS3 have a web browser? I'm really HATING my 360 for not having one standard...Just so incredible lame to cripple your own box. Obviously they did it just to force you to go the pay route with all their ridiculous commercial crap.

It does, but it's not very good. It's about as good as the Wii's, albeit in a higher resolution. They're functional in a pinch and that's about it. Honestly, unless there was a radical interface design, I wouldn't want the type of browser that's on the PS3 and Wii (or 3DS or PSP) on the Xbox 360. In any case, I don't consider the lack of a Web browser "crippled". I think the plan is to have most of the missing media services via Xbox 360 apps, which are already starting to appear with the new interface. It's not like most services are allowed to play on the PS3 or Wii browser anyway--these services purposely block them (like they do most smartphones and tablets) and it would be the same situation on the 360. If you want everything it's hook up a PC via HDMI or nothing...

I'm sure their main fear is

I'm sure their main fear is that people will find a way to use it to pirate games or watch unauthorized stuff...Who knows. Bottom line is that they feel it's more profitable for them to limit freedom, despite the obvious benefits to consumers. It's freakin' Microsoft for God's sake. You telling me they can't figure out how to put IE on the Xbox?

It IS crippled as far as the web goes. So what if they give you a handful of commercial apps. I'd ditch them all in a heartbeat for a simple web browser as good as my iPhone's.

What I'm trying to say is, is you won't be able to gain anything unless you just want to access regular Websites and I honestly don't know what benefit that would be. We've had Web browsers on our consoles since the Dreamcast and they've never been any good. In addition, if you're looking to access media services like Netflix or Amazon Prime or whatever (meaning, "unauthorized stuff"), it's not going to happen because they purposely only allow access on certain devices, no matter how capable a device's particular browser is. That's not a Microsoft or Sony or Nintendo thing, that's a Web services provider thing. They're the ones doing the blocking in this case.

And so what if you had a browser as capable as what you have on the iPhone or iPad? What exactly do you do on there that you'd want to do on your console's browser? The interface just isn't there. Sure, you can hook up a keyboard and you have motion controls on all three platforms, but how good of an experience would that be? Based on what I can do on the PS3 (and it's browser) - which is supposed to be a more powerful system - not very good.

I'll be curious how the browser on the Vita is. I doubt it will be any good either, but if they can mimic the experience on our phones and tablets, then perhaps I'll actually be able to use one of these outside of gunpoint.

Don't really have browsing in

Don't really have browsing in mind with the PS3 - our Dell laptop is best for that at present. The web is gradually being morphed into a network anyhow - apps and web services can make for new "users" of the web who have no need of a browser.

While this is a good thing it also makes me slightly uncomfortable - a browser in theory is an open window onto the web - not like an app with its pinhole view. But a browser is not enough - a "true" search engine is also required. A search engine is after all only the web from a certain point of view - unlike a truly open search engine - free of sponsored links - kind of what google (and all the rest) used to be. If a search engine provider has an agenda then sites can be promoted to page 1 or made invisible. This would be helped on by an impatient population who rarely go beyond page 2. It's quite an unsettling thought.
