Well if any of you signed up for the beta.. it went public today.. surprisingly early as its not out till next year (or so they say?). Was NO NDA with public beta so i dont think there is any issues will mentioning this.

They really are trying to milk WoW for every penny and bringing all the Bliz games into one world. Your first quest is in the TRISTAN monastery (scarlet monastery in WOW is in Tristan).. tie in that works OK i guess. Maybe this is not the norm for the rest of the game.. but I find it surprising it was the first quest.

its DIABLO all right no major game play changes, looks to be refined a bit.. it actually plays (control wise) better then the old Diablos's so that's a plus. its pretty good looking.. but as many mentioned in Skyrim, its bleak.. dark and not real colorful (except spell effects). I don't care at all the color palette as long as it looks good and it does..its almost got that look old adventure games had when they had hand painted backgrounds. I like the look. Havent had time to play all the classes, but they all look really good.. the Witch Doc looks kinda exciting.. the MONK too.. but I went Ranged, thats just me.. Demon Hunter.

I joined a public game and was in town.. no idea where my party was but there were arrows on screen sending me the right way. the game lets you pretty much do your own thing.. and it didn't seem to matter if i was there or not. Nobody seemed to talk, nobody said a word ot me when i asked questions. nobody stopped once.. they just killed killed killed.. really no cohesiveness at all. The public game had 4 but I'm sure one could solo it easy. I was getting quest completes even when I was no where near the others.. PUBLIC looks a mess.. it will be simple to play, but there was no reason to do it I could see.. I would guess rewards will be better (alla WoW Epic dungeons.. more reward for more risk)... but not sure.

Next I made a private game with friends only invite (no way to make one plain old private that I can see in beta (im sure final will let you).. much like most beta's this is the multiplayer part, not the solo single player game (if this has one?) So all alone i did the quest.. cake walk.. much like the diablo's before it the challenge must come many levels in.

PRO: Looks good, monsters look good.. exactly what you would expect from a Daiblo game.. its pretty.. if a bit dark. The already good interface is tweeked just enough to make it feel better. I will be buying it for sure ( or just making my current WOW account a year one so i get it free). its a good game.. its exactly what you would expect.. a NEW IMPROVED DIABLO game.

CONS: its like you are hooked to a rubber band.. its online but even without others i was shooting all over the screen.. it was HORRIBLE!!!! this is game breaking. I'm going to assume the Beta went public today so its just lagged out today with the influx of testers.. but if this doenst improve the game is ... JUNK.. unplayable.. I was running away from mobs and the game was lagging me back into them and I was dead bu the time i could control my character again. ful health running away, blink im in middle of mobs, blink my screen is red , blink im dead.. and i didn't do anything the whole time but run away from them. Game also mentioned my vid card drivers are out of date. so updating them as i type this.. (they are maybe 2 months old, so its not really that old). Right now the lag is breaking the game so bad its unplayable.

so first thoughts.. its looking good, plays like diablo.. but broke.. because of lag right now.

Diablo III is guaranteed to be good, if not necessarily "great"

YES! its DIABLO throuhg and throuhg.. they have added little touchs. World traps (you can use on enemies) such as dropping the chandiler, or knocking a wall down on them.. The classes are kinda new.. but face it.. shooting an arrow, throwing a javalin, or shooting a fire ball are all just Projectial weapons.. while wach looks differnt (and does play differnt) the classes could be compared ot the old Diablo ones. I have said it before.. Im na explorer.. seeing new tile sets, seeing new mosnters, all is fun to me.. I WILL explore every corner of every map even if I fond the stairs down, thats just me. It has tons of barrels to bust, lose rocks to move, etc.. (almost ot the point of to many).. They seem to have used the imp/goblin guys witchdocter resurection thing alot.. there are lots of mobs that brind new ones into battel if not killed quickly (keep in mind I have only played till level10 as that is it in the beta).

SO yes.. if you didnt enjoy diablo, you probebly wont enjoy the new one. IF you did, the new one is 1000X better to look at, plays slightly easier ( interface wise) and has some small changes. And THE online part may be the big gotcha.. it may be a lag fest or it may be ok.. only a release will tell.

Matt and I were just having this discussion yesterday about how interesting Diablo III is. When we mentioned Diablo III in "Vintage Games", I had marked the release date as 2009, thinking it would give it plenty of time to come out as expected (we wrote the book in 2008). Now that the book is going through a second edition, we were able to "correct" the date to 2012. Pretty amazing when you think about it. Very few companies have the financial resources like Blizzard does to tweak a game for years and years (and years...) until it's exactly how they want it... Pretty admirable on most levels...

To be fair, Diablo and Diablo

To be fair, Diablo and Diablo II had nearly identical gameplay and they were both fun. I expect Diablo III to be more of the same with different graphics and some new classes. I don't think the game will be bad (as long as the lag doesn't kill it - it was pretty bad in Diablo II at times also) but I'd rather see Blizzard put some effort into creating a NEW game than just rehashing sequels to their existing stuff and churning out WoW content.

Paul you are correct.. close

Paul you are correct.. close name and a Monstary threw me off.. i was the one thinking the lore all matched in some way.

If you still play WoW if oyu up for a year you get it free ( Diablo III).. pretty big commitment but some oof us ( i'm looking at me) are tyo stupid to cancel accounts on games we dont play so may as well get somthing out of it..

Personally I'm looking forward to it, its quite beautifull to look at, has the standard excellance Blizzard has shown in other games ( nothing new, but boy, they do it the best it can be done).

The rubber banding has gotton noticebly less (i htink the public weekend just stressed stuff.. but it will be UGLY on release Im guessing). The SOLO player.. you still can.. but it doenst appear there is any OFFLINE mode. you just make a game private and play. I must say at the moment the classes need some tuning.. or it seems that way to me. The BETA gives you 2 quest lines.. which both end with your character at about level 10. I have played all the classes throw one or both of the questslines (they are about the same as the first STAGE in daiblo II (ok not that long, but think of a questline as a stage). I found the Demon Hunter and tank classes overly easy, the other classes harder to play.. of course I would guess this tips as you level.. hard to play but when fleshed out, much better..

I know I will pick this up on day one. I really cant get across how good it LOOKS.. play.. well that standard Diablo, but its really a thing of beauty i think. Not many games go form "looks great" to .. WOW..

Thanks for the summary. I'll

Thanks for the summary. I'll probably pass on this one since I've been getting really cheap lately and I would mostly just play single player.

PS, The WoW zone is called "Tirisfal Glades"

You need a Battlenet account

You need a Battlenet account (I'm guessing you maybe have one if you played WOW or Diablo II) go to your account and there is an option to "try" get into Beta's. No more button on websites.

I agree, the Highlights of Diablo and Diablo II where me and friend playing it.. this was the early days when thre were almost NO CO-OP games.. so was fresh. YES- HUGE disapointemnt Diablo III is a "always connected to play" game. Big up for publisher as it almost eliminates piracy. Sure there will be hacked servers but no Auction House, no ranking, etc.. But as Im finding out its not playing well for me.

lots of reading it seems Diablo has the assets loaded (already) and is trying to RELOAD them which is cuasing the hicups in my gameplay ( or so the BLUE posts in the Diablo Beta forums want us to beleive. its just hugly annoying and game changing right now.. long puases whenthe action is sitll going on but you have a paused screen are GAME BREAKING its BETA i know.. but like waiting all day to eat your favorite meal and there are flies all over.. you can shoo um away.. but even gone are you sure you want to eat it?..

Diablo III looks great, plays good ( when it does) but.. i just cant take the hicups... I tried all night to get a soild game with no luck. Again, I'm praying its just a huge inlfux of new players cuasing it. If the puase, stutter thing is taken care of it looks like a HUGE hit to me and that after only about 2-3 hours of play.. Turkey day will be Diablo III unitll i cant take the stuttering then Skyrim untill the crashing ruins it.. and 2 games cuasing problems Im sure a few will wonder if my machine is ok.. it is.. I even played Crysis II a few hours last night to see if I would crash.. and not a problem.. I cant make anything else crash.. just Skyrim.. and Diablo II is not crashing , just stuttering.

Some other observations- Lots more "named" mobs.. lots more "elite" mobs.. and tons of Achievments.. strange health system. No longer does health regen slowly (did it in early diablo games, I cant remember?) every 3-4 mobs you kill drops a red orb looking thing.. they slowly regen your health (and potions still drop too). it works pretty well as just running around killing trash a new orbs drop, but on bosses, none.. so you have to deal with um. Dungoens at end have easy "go to start of dngeon" stones.. and the waypoint system is still in game too. They have added alot of the cool things from the Diablo clones.. clones copied Diablo and added stuff, Diablo III took some of it back i guess :)

I'm still stuck by how nice it looks. maybe the fact I played Dibalo 2 not to long ago is jut exagerating how nice it looks compared.

Nice news

Cool that Diablo III when public beta. I am surprised with how much of a fanatic my wife is that she is concerning Diablo games that she hasn't tried to get signed up. I actually don't see where on the Blizzard site you can try to sign up for the Beta in the first place. I'm guessing, and this is just me, that the game will be much more entertaining if you are playing it with friends rather than strangers. I'm a little concerned that if I want to play with my wife, I have to connect to a server 400 miles away, and then have her do the same rather than just connecting directly between the two computers. Gone are the days of LAN parties, I guess.

ok just got to add.. DOH

ok just got to add.. DOH Tristan was Diablo before WoW, to many hours in WoW i had forgotten. I have found no way to make the game not rubber band, and pause.. its driving me nuts as its otherwise looking fun. I also see i can play SOLO in a locked game (like diablo) must have just had bad luck the first time i tired. Frustration.. All quests appear voiced ( nice touch) so no longer have to read books, you pick them up and the author reads them to you.
