Yeah, they went for bleak yet

Yeah, they went for bleak yet again...So, so many CRPGs seemed to be set like that. One thing I LOVED about M&M 6 was the huge variety of settings. WOW did it right, too. Just when you're sick of snow you go to a jungle setting. Very refreshing. This is just snow and mountains so far.

I've been experimenting with the mage. I see that I could wear heavier armor, but only my robes give me decent magicka regen. If I take them off, I'm pretty much left with a burst of two of spells and then have to switch to a bow or melee weapon. I have a spell or two to give me armor, but it doesn't seem effective enough. Looks like I need to specialize here...Maybe grab the perks to make my armor spells more effective, or work on being more of a hybrid character who can throw a few spells and then take a hit or two in melee.

Well my comment on winter was

Well my comment on winter was evalation releated.. up high in the Mountians its almost always snow. BUT you bring up a point.. i had (from videos and previews ) kinda feltitwas a winter game (and that was more opinion then fact).. but you are correct there should be seasons. I think its a mind set.. FPS sell, Adventure games dont, etc.. I'm sure in agreement we could have more colors.. but my love ofr the game has maybe blinded me .. IM totally happy with it.. Im excited its a weekend.. and Im really looking forward to a 4 day weekend next week.

incendently I loved Lost planet too :) even thougt it was kinda panned but the critics.. The second game.. not so much..

man i know i have ot many games.. GOG's sale this week is on 1C games.. 60% off.. and damn... i have every single one! For anybody looking Kings Bounty and Fantasy Wars are both solid games.. (though Fantasy Wars succesor is better, Elven Legacy)

Nowhere in the game

Nowhere in the game information I have does it state that it's Winter during this game. Also, since it takes so many days, weeks, months in game to progress the story, shouldn't the seasons change? Furthermore, this isn't the only game that has chosen dull and bleak for the color palette. This is the problem for me. I'm tired of the primary color choices in games being brown or grey. You can add color and not have it look garish. Matt just did a Matt Chat on a game that did so very nicely. Might and Magic 6. You have have gray and brown, but look at the clothing for the people. It adds a dash of color. They do realize that people wore many different colors of clothing in age that the elder scrolls are based around, correct? Hell, watch the progression. People still wore colorful clothes in Morrowind. Then Oblivion came out and the clothes got duller, and now in Skyrim, all they wear is brown. Sorry but people have known how to dye leathers since the early metal ages, so why can't these people wear colorful clothes? I'm not just condemning this game on the color palette, I'm condemning all games on the color palette choices. It's sad (in my opinion) that games like Crysis 2 has more color in it than this fantasy game! Games don't have to be grey and brown to be realistic. There is tons of color even in the middle of winter in a realistic environment. I do agree that the ice and the snow drifting is nice touch, but I don't think they look hyper realistic. They are the best seen in games so far I agree, but the first Lost Planet game had very very nice snow effects too.

I'm curius Matt what dungeon

I'm curius Matt what dungeon are you in where the boss is one shotting you? I had this issue when i was level 7 and hit a Questline dungeon long before i could get the quest (you dont get the quest till level 14 or so) when i was 16 i one shotted the boss (sneak and ice spike to back with crit). So far i have only ran into one boss that frustrated me to no end ( many that annoyed me, but never unbeatable) and Im playing Expert. The one did piss me off enouhg to put my Mage away for a bit, but a reload and skip of that dungoen showed me the error of my ways ( again , to early to go there).. I do think ICE is way to nasty a Distruction line.. Im not scared of any mages excpet ICE Necro's used to bug me but now I know the old "ignore the little guy , kill the big guy" kill them and no worries.. dont fight the minions.

Bugs, again.. fallout, Oblivion, etc.. all where buggy on the PC and console.. while this is suposed to be a new engine (it sure looks like a gussied up old one to me) i hate it when i crash after 2 hours of exploring.. but my own fualt for not saving enough.

"The graphics aren't what I would call astounding, (what ever happened to beautiful graphics that were colorful?" Well in the North west corner of map is lots and lots of forest, all green and .. foresty? To bad the forest (green elementals?) baddies are hanging around in them.. those swarm spells are nasty! SKyrim was ment to be BLEAK, that was part of what they wanted to get across, fantasy world on the brink . Oblivion had much more green game. At night when the sky is clear take a look at those MOONS coming up over a mountain.. In an ICE cave look at the thick Ice walls.. they look almost real. The snowstorms are best i have seen (in a game).. and the way the snow blows down paths and throuhg holes.. off cliff edges.. very realstic for a game.. The swamp area is the best swamp area of any game I have played.. the haze.. the dead trees all over.. The spiders are almost scarry in there. Now i understand it fanatasy.. and yes Im sick of the brown gray worlds.. but its fall here in the north and when you go out in the country.. other then evergreen trees.. its pretty dull brown everywhere.. This game is set in WINTER :) its bleak.. I honeslty believe they wanted a bit of the Fallout bleak thing going.. and personly (im a fanboy so take with grin of salt) i love it.

I really am a HUGE elder Scroll fanboy so please forgive my gushing love for this game series.. dont take my comments wrong. I doubt I will see much wrong in the game even when Im looking right at it :)

You can mitigate the one shot deaths a little on the PC..

You can mitigate the one shot deaths a little on the PC. All you have to do is drop the difficulty down. The game defaults to novice (read medium) and can go as low as apprentice (read very easy). There have been several instances on certain bosses that I could not beat in any way and I ended up having to lower the difficulty for the fight to keep from using cheat codes. I cannot see how I can get killed in two or three swings from someone with an iron sword when I'm decked out in Plate mail armor. There is still the stupid level to keep up with you that was so heavily prevalent in Oblivion that made the game almost unplayable. It's not always there, but it's still a pain in the ass. By the way Matt, I'm sorry to hear that the XBox 360 version is so glitchy. I was under the impression that they designed the game for the consoles primarily and then ported and enhanced for the PC. I am guessing now that it is the other way around. I hope they patch it soon for you. The graphics aren't what I would call astounding, (what ever happened to beautiful graphics that were colorful? Now everything is freaking grey and brown!) but the story is definitely compelling. This certainly seems like a game people should not miss out on. Lvl 25, with 8 dragons down. 7 shouts found so far. I've discovered probably 90-100 places on my map. It looks a mess now with all the little icons everywhere. still having fun though. I think I will play more tomorrow after I finish my consulting work.

Played some more...the

Played some more...the one-shotting is getting past the point of annoying and into ragequitting territory. The reloading times are bearable, at least. If I had to wait on a long load, this thing would already be listed on Amazon used games.

That i can agree with 100%

That i can agree with 100% (spell limitations) but you can hotkey um.. so you can swap between spells quite easily......errr maybe not on the 360 :( I think the companion is the key.. as a spell caster i was using lots of raise dead spells so I always had a minion.. and adding a 2nd just made things easier i thought.. YES it so damn annoying when you are lining up a shot and they rush in and push the mob out of your shot, or they stand in it.. you just gotta work around that. Again its annoying but not unrealistic. make sure to follow the main quest for a bit ( at least till you get your SHOUT) it helps alot..

I think when I posted that I

I think when I posted that I was pretty upset because of the weakness of my character. The difficulty is an issue; just wandering around the forest you are taking out wolves with your weakest spell...Get cocky. Then a tiger jumps out and one-shots you. I guess that makes it more "hardcore," but I think I'd have wanted to at least give you a fighting chance to get the hell outta there or at least know when you're getting close to one.

I'm finding that to survive the really tough battles I have to hit pause, quaff potions, and resume in short bursts. Not fun at all. I also don't like that you only have two spells you can cast, and that's usually a dual cast, so you're always having to go into the favorites menu to select something else. That gets tedious after awhile.
