After World Of tanks has inspired me to read a ton on tanks (and hence branch out into the 2 great wars) my interest has been arroused and I want a deep strategy game. I did some searchs and almost all the ones list are RTS. Im looking for something a bit more Heart Of Iron (which sadly i cant get running on my machine for some strange reason). I want to rule the world one step at a time. Anybody with some suggestions?

most lists have the following

COH excellent RTS (maybe the best out right now IMHO)
Codename Panzers -both one and two: a personal favorite of mine for the ultra real look and solid RTS gameplay
Order of war- nice rts too
Soldiers- heros of WWII: another undersold gem.
Blitzkrieg (all)- more great RTS littel work to get going on my win7 machine as they whre pushing graphics at time of release but have issues with todays cards.

Played COH Tales of Valor

Played COH Tales of Valor last night (every campaign) man i remeber why i disliked that expansion... it was great but WAY TO SHORT. I got on Ebay and order up Codename Panzer:phase two (played Phase one and loved it).. I also grabbed Supremcy (pc version). World of Tanks has me in a WW II mood , I watched some Military Channel last night, read a bunch on WW II on the web etc.. its wierd how a game can spure you on in some wierd direction (that is actually educational in some ways). I think on he way home from work tonight Im going to stop at th video stor and grab some WWII movies Battel of the Bulge, Bridge to Far.. etc.. moveis about actual battles.

I know i never played it, but i did play the Star Fleet Battles which was Ship combat and boarding (Empires is is part of this series I believe) it sold enough that the BAD guys got a game whre you played them too ...and loved those..

Supremacy (overlord in other countries) was possilby my favorite strategy gaem on the Amiga. NO action at all, just pure strategy .. 4 opponents, all just AI leevls, the brute dumb one, the insect one that could use telepthy, the Reptial, smart and strong and sadly some stupid looking red guy with a bucket on his head... who was the hardest to beat. you had planets that came lifless ( must be terformed which took time) jungle (good for food) rocky (industrial) etc.. each planet had so many slots for upgrades (such as factories, housing, hydroponics for food, etc.. So an idustrial world might be best for producing industry, but you have to balance it with food those planets done make alot.. keep the people happy, reproducing (gotta have peopel to build your armies) which are controled by taxes etc.. And like i mentioned, armies.. you pull ehtm from your planets population so if you are taxing to much they dont make babies.. and no people no armies ( or workers).. And training your armies takes time. they start at 0% and simply train slowly (unless you inject cash which can speed it up). Then you can outfit your troops with armour (4 kinds I think) and weapons ( again 4 kinds) which all take cash.. so you have to balance it.. a 100% trained army with best armour weapons would wipe out the same amry with only 50% training. Of course during the war... if oyu are getting attacked you need to often pull low trained armies and ill equip them to stave off lossing a planet.. which in turn loses you the preciuos time to build that army, and all its equipment you bought. The one thing i have alwasy hated about these types of games is you simply have to PUSH so hard , expanding quickly to get a stable enconemy going, you cant turtle up at all or he will have all the planets and just out cash you.. man now I want to play it... I see there is even a C-64 version ..... and PC! oh oh... dosbox!

One really cool feature i liked you are basicly sitting at a compute console (in the actual game) and your face shows in the planetary screen .. the stronger you are the more your face shows ( or was it the closer you are to defeat?) it was neat little almost unoticable feature.

Are there any games like the TOTAL WAR ones? I know I mentioned no RTS.. but tht would be pretty good.. I can almost alwasy do the battle parts in these games.. the resource/town/managment part is my weak area.. maybe one reason I wasn never a huge Civilsation buff.
