OK, now there are famously bad consoles, handhelds, computers, that are well known and seem to be brought up constantly (CDi bad games / Virtua Boy hard on eyesight / Jaguar poor support / 3DO expensive etc) now fanboyism aside, personally I believe every one of these and all the rest no matter how bad served a purpose whether it was a niche need or simply teaching others what NOT to do lol! Wit this in mind I would like you to name a system that many people "hate" on or maybe just that is not a personal favorite and name at least one good point (OR MORE) about this system!
RULE: THE ONLY RULE HERE IS THE EXCLUSION OF THE MODERN PC AND MAC PLATFORMS! I WOULD PREFER THIS NOT TURN INTO A MAC/PC DEBATE THREAD THANKS! ;)
OK I will start:
My choice 3DO: Known mostly for it's high price point at launch and some of the worst games ever "Plumber's don't Wear Ties" anyone? One thing that I loved about the system was the quality of FMV (FULL MOTION VIDEO) games right out of the box, love them or hate them games that utilized FMV for gameplay or even cutscenes looked pretty damn good on the 3DO right out of the box where the CDi required a FMV/MPEG cartridge to achieve similar quality and the SegaCD FMV just looked horrid the #DO FMV rocked and I admit a fondness for FMV games if only in a campy B-moive type way I saw FMV as an interesting use for a growing multi-media platform and I really enjoy them on the 3DO.
Surely there is something to say on this subject? HELLO?
I just learned about a cool game for the Apple Bandai Pippin called "Marathon." According to Wikipedia, it was Bungee's first ever game for a console. :)

Macs first FPS too! Bungee was Apples champion gaming wise.. its sad to see they swayed to the dark side... They ported some Mac games and ports of older Mac games sold better then the originals I guess.. or maybe Bill flashed enough cash.. I wonder the true story behind that all. Mac never strived to be a gaming machine.. the Intel PC did.. well maybe not strived.. but knew it didnt hurt.
strange I check here almost everyday and this post just showed up? As an Atari youth I have to go with the Jag. It really did have alot of posabilities, and while the Hardware was not as advertised, it was actually alot better then most made it out to be. It did 3D well, but was limited by memory use (textures on polys) so Alot of games used flat untextured 3D objects. Atari was acutally not that far off from the consoles that followed it a year later ( PSone and Saturn) in power.. it just had a huge flaw with how it handled memory. Alot of people complain about the controler, but personally the overlay idea works for me (but I gerw up with intelvision). If i was to fault the controler it would be the 3 buttons instead of 6 on the the main face. I think the jag failed for several reasons, on major flaw in harware (memory). ATARI name (lets face it , at that time would you have banked on them making it agienst Nintendo/sony/sega?). Hard to develop on succesfully much like the Current SONY is.. it could do some pretty amazing stuff, but it took work to do it. Cart based at the start of the CD craze. AMAZINGLY BAD Launch titles.. And.. I preorderd and still waited 2 months for stock to come in.. which means.. from sales figures that retailers where scared of it and where not ordering in any 'spare" stock..
The GOOD, what this is all about: Some of the games where a step ahead of the current console curve. Iron Soldier was Ipressive Giant Robot game that others didnt get close to makeing better for at least 2+ years. AvP was a defining game much Like HALO was for the 360.. If AvP had reached a larger group of players I think it would be listed as a classic game and would surely have helped the jag in the long run. T2K.. tempest remake spawned several reamkes /ports.. Ithink a system is only as good as the games, and the Jag has some great ones.. and.. way to many crap ones. The ambition was good. All consoles promise the world.. The jag promised the first real chance at VR.. and almost succeded. it might be the king of VAPOR ware.. if you look at the games promised.. and actual released.. its amazing.. the HOPE there was.. I still like my jag and to theis day think the big 3 games are all quite playable today.. AvP, Irons Soldier, and T2K.. and yes many others.. but those 3 are great.. it had some of the best ports of older PC games of the time.. Doom Wolf3D.. better then most of its compatition ports..
