Name a movie that should NEVER EVER be remade! As a remake would defile the memory of the original.
Which movie would that be for you?

- Blade runner immediately jumped to mind.

some others
- Alien (the trilogy)
- Jaws
- Breakfast Club
- Ferris Bueller's day off
- The Matrix (I only really care for the 1st movie)

You are in for a treat if you

You are in for a treat if you are into Hammer horror - best one they ever made. I have seen it as a multi-parter on youtube - still may be there if the poster has stayed ahead of the tube police.

ah - here it is. Great stuff

Spacey would be a good Mocata too.

Neer heard of this.. and i consider my self fairly well versed in movies. I will be checking htis out :)

You bring up a point that i

You bring up a point that i should understand as I say it all the time about games, we cant relive that feeling from the past , that first time playing that great game, so no matter how hard they try to remake it improve it .. it will never feel like that "first time".. I guess that works for movies too. I know the original CONAN movie is no masterpiece.. but as the HUGE conan nut i was at the time, reading every book and comic, and the movie while not great, exceded my expectations. remakes of that would dispoint me (as the last one did and the 2nd movie did)..

I dont mind remakes if they are done well.. i guess that would be my point, anything.. if done well is a good thing.. the real problem is when you have to remake, you have already shown you lack some creativitiy.. OLD games.. is one thing, updating MULE to a modern interface, graphics, etc.. Might be OK... Updating something form the last 5 years.. technology hasnt giving us some massive jump in graphics or design that its needed. I think most of us's real problem with remakes is most are not done well. its a sterotype that is fundementaly correct, almost all remakes are not improvements. hence most of us cringe when we hear about them.. the really great ones can be coundted on two hands..

Movies:
Alien and Aliens.. many say the second is a better movie.. I'm not sure I agree, I do agree both are great movies.. one is a horror thriller set on a spaceship, the other a action movie set on a planet. Other then a couple characters (ripley and the aliens) the moves are not really the same at all.. not a remake, its a story extended. The movies play so differently, the small crew unprepared, confined quarters, the single alien slowly killing them off. then youahve a bunch of marines, unlimited firepower, tech.. preppared to deal, hundreds of aliens.. the only thing the two have in common is (the said 2 characters) and the final understanding that no matter how powerfull you feel, how in control you think you are.. things can screw that up. This is a case where a second was justified.. it wasnt a remake.. it was done well, it was well thouhgt out.. it was not just taking eh old story and adding new people and a new place (the 3rd was almsot a remake of the first in some sence, small amount of people, no tech, not prepared, single alien slowly picking them off, confined space.. this one is ok.. i enjoyed it.. but it could be a canidate for "why"?).

Superman movies (Reeve) again many think the 2nd is the best.. ME.. other then the cartoony feel, Im not a fan.. the 60's Batman show did the "camp" 100% better and still is an awsome show to watch if you can deal with sly jokes told in hidden ways. But other than the the last one with Pryor they all seem the same to me..

CROW.. this one will get me some hate, but I perfer the feel of the second one.. I really like them both.. other than the poor acting of the "model" so they had a pretty boy for the Crow.. and the horrible "bad guy boss" i really liked the feel.. The first does have some classic momemonts( ok more then some).. when he confronts Funboy with Darla.. that whole scene is PERFECT the drug fuels funboy so cocky and full of him self he cant see his trouble.. and even when he shoots heimslef.. its still not registering.. the drugs.. the power his gang commanded.. he isnt getting it right up till the end...He gots shot and says "look what you done to my sheets" not his leg. and when he does start to shoot him.. and it finally dawns on him.. "dont you ever [cencored] die?".. and the best part.. most of that is straight from the comic.. thats why it works..

I really could talk gerat movies forever but need to riegn myself in.. I will get so off track (already have some)

I do agree
Coen Brothers, (have they made a bad movie?) Rasing Arizona (the humour is almost perfect), Millers Crossing (quite possibley the best gangster film made in 30 years) To NO country For Old Men (one of the best endings ever.. as it really has no ending in the real sence, no clousure...) how can the do comedy, drama, action to as close to prefection as it gets?

Mw N.Shyamalan- Now i agree and disagree.. his early movies are great. SIGNS is one of my personal favorites (except some glearing flaws.. we travel in space ships but cant break a door down?) his use of aliens in the start of the movie is perfect..the quick glance on top of the barn, the leg int eh corn field.. CREEPY with no gore, no bugs, no nothing.. just perfect.. you felt like you whre there and you knew that safe cornfield was so UNSAFE.. it still gives me goosebumps..

Unofortnalty his later movies THE VILLAGE whre far to easy to guess.. I knew what was going on in that movie in less then a few minutes.. And LADY IN T HE WATER was fun.. but a modern fairy tale.. he kinda missed the mark a fairy tale is for kids (and lady was just that, a story he told his kids if i remeber right).. but it was amped up for adults.. which is why it was so .. er.. strange? THE HAPPENING.. was almost boring.. I did like the fact there was no easy fix .. but .. not a good movie (and yes just opinion).. Air bender..will leave that to others.. DEVIL.. i did like this one and being a fan of that type of movie (i really like a movei that can keep me intersted without explosions or grand VISTA's.. the story has to hold me.. ) to bad in the end it used an awsome plot from another movie ( i wont say which as it will ruin this movie).. I do wonder if he has issue with death .. Signes (Mells wife).. Six Scenth, DEVIL (cops wife).. this eems to be in alot of his movies.I hope DEVIL shows he is comming back..

i will list a bit more obscure (and his moveis are all almost stright to video)

Albert Pyun - he has done a ton of BAD B movies.. but he has something. he will never make a mainstream movie, I thinkthe closest is CYBORG (with Van Dam) or if you remeber FULL MOON (straight to video company from the early rental days) DOLLMAN, ARCADE, SWORD AND THE SCORCERR, Nemesis, Brainsmasher a love story (i really recomend this one if you want some strange fun, slight vibe like Big Troubel In Littel CHina... he made a ton of those bad Christopher Lambert and Rutger Hauer moveis in the early 90's.. Omega Doom (again, horrible sets, but kinda cool story) And my all time favorite of his MEAN GUNS stupid story.. but dang fun to watch..

or if i pick name brand John Woo.. but not his american stuff.. Hard Boiled my be the perfect action movie..

Stephen Summers right up to van Helsing.. anything after.. bah... DEEP RISING .. chck it out.. this is a good movie nobody knows about.

Ok im done.. rambling on and on..

That scene at the end with the dove...

That scene at the end with the Dove is actually something the actor Rutger Hauer introduced, R.Scott thought the idea was a good one.

I am not a fanboy by any means and I am not opposed to remakes of games, tv series or movies but some are 'sacret' to me for personal reasons. Blade Runner is one of these movies. Perhaps even ET and Close Encounters of the Third Kind are.

At the time those were pinnacle movies that I was exposed to as a young kid and it really shaped how I think and feel about movies in general. The memory within my head surrounding that movie contains all sorts of extra personal bits. It becomes a personal memory/feeling that cannot be replaced with a fax-simuli. Some music is the same, some tracks or albums I was exposed to at a point in time and they are really ingrained into my personal history. Even some games although I must say I always was playing ports of the same game on various platforms. Kcmunchkin on the Odessey2 can not be replaced however.

And also current directors can't be surpassed in my life time, I think....
the Coen Brothers,
Mw N.Shyamalan, those guys make excellent movies that I would not like to see remade.

3D really is overrated, studies have shown that the number of car accidents is significally higher in people who have just watched a 3D movie in a cinema. It seems to screw up your depth perception at least for a couple of hours. I usually end up getting a head ache in 3D cinemas, I hope it does not become the norm.

Video games may be my

Video games may be my addiction but Movies are my passion. NOW i need to stress.. I dont like the movies the academy does... Lost in the Translation... holy heck! other then a very nice bum. What the hell was that? I live a real boring twisted messed up life.. why would I want to see it on the TV screen...

Now I think I'm kinda an odd man out. I'm not against video game remakes, or movie remakes.. its all about the end resault. I dont think any MOVIE or game is sacred.. after all its is just a movie or game.. now witht hat said IM going to be the bad guy in this discussion.. I know.. sorry.. I do agree, crap it crap..

Most of those 80's movies where remade.. but in the 80's, heck a few wher made into TV shows.. not so bliantly that they used the same name.. Parker Luwis cant Lose is just Farris Bueller. etc...

First... Aliens.. I love um all.. in fact Resurection.. has one of the most interesting characters (besides the Aliens themsleves) in all the movies.. Resurected Ripley with part Alien in here was such a dang intersting character.. that was used so little the cool parts really stuck out.. the basketball thing, the part when she "felt" them, the tottal badd ass she was.. even on otp of what she had been in the other movies... she had people to protect in the first ones.. in Resurection she didnt really care about the people.. but it built.. And her swaying in a dark way.... was she good, bad.. (and when i say bad.. in the alien bad way.. which is to say, they are not evil.. just surviving. There was something so compeling about her character. I do agree alot of the otehr charcaters and such all kinda blew.. I will never dislike Ron Perlman... and the little french guy (he has many great fench movies if you dont mind subtitles)..

Blade Runner... I really like the movie, but never understood the huge following it has.. I do have 3 different versions of it on DVD ( yes I do really like it alot, jut not fantical like some).. Roy batty at the end is ... just one of the best scenes ever in a movie.. Of course Im a fan of Dicks work.. and have read most of it.. Man in a HIgh Castle is still my fovorite of his.. Fact about Blade Runner ( or Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?) did you know it was based on Nazi's? Ina strange way.. he had read some diaries of some Nazi soilders and how sick and demneted they where.. he beleived they whre mentally unstable.. and how devoid of feelings they where and how they must thnk.. and it all evolved into the androids and dreams and such.. Remake.. why? It flopped.. sure its a classic now.. but.. so I guess I agree, no remake... (so all my comments are null and void I DO CARE one is sacred)...

Willy Wonka.. now .. this one is really interesting.. I really love the movie (70's) but.. if you have read the book, the NEW movie one is much closer.. so .. should the one that follows the book be considered the best one.. or the first movie? I liked both.. in fact some of the music (four of the five songs) in the new one is from the book (not the actual music but words) the 70's music and songs not so much in fact the one on thr boat ( chicken killing scene) is the only original song. I donte feellt eh new one ruins the old one.. I love the old one, and liked the new one.

Tron2 not sure what to say.. the new one is pure glitz and almost no substance.. like most new movies are nowdays that involve action..again.. didnt mind it.. it wont ever even remolty live up ot the original in my mind.. but it was ok.

Im such a movie nut I think I canstand almost any movie and find somethign I like...and plenty to dislike.

CROW- one of the BEST comics ever.. and the FIrst Crow movie was great.. Lotta hate for the second.. but again, it really feels like the comics book world it was based on.. I wish the feel of the 2nd movei with the hstory from the first could be combined.

but all the rest of the CROW movies should have been shitcanned.. not becuase its not a great idea to build on (or leave alone).. but they where done badly.

With computer genrated CGI getting so cheap and straight to DVD sales.. there are some exceptional movies if you can deal with some cheap effects.. The trick is finding them.. I guess that is where i have my real problem with remakes.. There is so much good content getting done on shoestring budgets with so os actors.. that nobody will see.. why should we be messing with Movie greats?

You can't really blame

You can't really blame Hollywood for this shite. They just make what they figure will make them a profit.

The people to blame: Idiots who flock to these things automatically and keep the machinery turning. If we didn't pay to see this drivel, Hollywood would be forced to make more innovative stuff.

Ridley Scott is supposedly

Ridley Scott is supposedly working on a 3D Blade Runner, but they're not sure if it's going to be a prequel or a sequel.
http://www.deadline.com/2011/08/ridley-scott-ready-to-direct-new-version...

I wish they would just let the classics remain classic. Tron 2 was terrible. Why did they feel Willy Wonka needed remade? Can you imagine a 3D Gone With The Wind, or Casablanca?
