Hi, guys. As you probably know, I'm planning to cover Daggerfall in my next Matt Chat retrospective. I've played it a few times and of course will play it more this week, but I'd still like to get YOUR stories and experiences with the game since I'm a Daggerfall noob. Do you have any fun factoids about it? Anything interesting that usually gets passed over in reviews? What are YOUR favorite memories of the game?

See ya next week! (hopefully)

Matt

I'm not so sure. Mojang is trying to get a trademark on "Scrolls"; that's very generic. I understand why Zenimax would file this suit since they hold a very similar trademark "Elder Scrolls" and they don't want their brand to be diluted.

Here is the public trademark info

It would essentially make it impossible for anybody to make a video game called "scrolls" in the future. My guess is that at the end of all this they will end up having to trademark a logo and not just the word. Scrolls Clothing Co. already did so: http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/jumpto?f=doc&state=4004:ofjlqq.5.2

You bring up a great point and ONE i totally missed. I was thining how could you trademark Scrolls.. its like tradmarking MONSTERS.. I was looking at Beth as the bad guy.. but I can understand why now.. it wouldnt be Mojang against beth, it would be Beth against Mojang when they wanted the next elderscrolls game. its not so EVIL big guy vs Little guy as I thouhgt.

Funny thing.. NOTCH (minecraft) is fighitng with them about eth SCROLLS name.. if you read up on ARENA (first game in set) where the ELDER SCROLLS name came from.. its all just toss away stuff.. it had no meaning.. and now they are fighitng about it... sad in a way..

Not just fighting.. they just filed the suit against him. Pretty sad, really. I can't see them having any hope of winning.

Im a bit suprised at lack of

Im a bit suprised at lack of comments here. Daggerfall is the game that took RPG's to true 3D, not sprite based, but true 3D, while the mobs and NPC where sprite based the game was a 3D engine. While my memory is not the best, i think it was one of the first that let you build spells, and when I say that I know alot of games before it let you discover spells, but this game let you BUILD them to specfics. You wanted a do all dmg spell it could do electric/fire/water damage.. and depending on how much of each it could be done.. of course it would burn up mana, which was the way they balnaced htis spell sytem. it was one of the first games to increase skill siwth use also I belive.. you cast fireball over and over you leveld it and got bettter with it.... which was alos a HUGE flaw in the game, make a torch spell that light a square or two around you, it used almost no mana, cast i over and over to increase your fire abilities... this could be done for most spell abiliteis... which lead to the people who have no interest in a balanced game sitting and spamming spells for awhile to build up.

The game struck a cord with me for my adventures nature. The main quest? bah... if the sheep want to be rulled by some evil guy i dont care.. if they think me .. solo old me can fix it.. why couldnt they raise an army and defeat him? I LOVED the fact there where 100's of dungoens for me to explore.. Hundreds of towns to look around, 100's f miles go game world. This game was as close to a HUGE world as it comes.. you made the adventure, you did as you pleased. This was its greatest strenght.. and to many its greatest weakness.. Some people have to have goals, the game laid out for them, they need a direction, need a NPC to say KILL MONSTER X at THIS POINT ON MAP... me.. I love killing all the monsters.. Monster genoicide!

Of course there where problems.. alot of the content was ...fodder.. no reason to be there but to level and grind. The game was too random, there was so much content that just WAS town 35.. it had a name, but it had no reason to be thier.. but then again.. does every town need a mosnter to slay a quest to get? Does every dungeon need a SUper bad Monster at the end?

My presonal feelings was for its time it was as close to PERFECT as it got.. HUGE world where I could od as I pleased. I hardely ever play an evil character but in this game.. I swayed.. I could go tot a town rob um blind and if I got cuaght. kill and run and hide from guards and people. Some of the best times whre hiding in a h ouse knowing the guards wheree outside and I couldnt escape without a fight.

This game was for the TRUE adventure, it was more of an Explore a world type game, of course there was the traditional quest most RPG's have for those people.. but to be honest i Lost sight of that goal quite quickly, the world was to exciting to follow a specfic path.. I might miss something. Ihave the same problem with the later elder Scroll games too.
