Pre ordered both (some extras when preordered, and pre load too).

Dead Island: seems the Steam version is... TA DA... the Dev Version and hs several problems. They say many things have been fixed (in a day one patch, that in itself should be a bad sign). The best way to describe it is Fallout in Zombie land. Lots of quests, huge world to move around in, people to talk to and help/rescue. Characters can be leveled (looks a bit like Borderlands, or if you prefer, Diablo/WoW). You start pretty much bashing zombies.. I have played about 6 hours and have yet to see a gun.. Stragnly disapointing, but in some ways, ok. The bashing gets old after awhile.. pipe, bat, oar, broom handle, shovel, crowbar etc.. Knifes, cleavers. Weapons are amazingly fragile.. you can kill 2 maybe 3 zombies with the wood ones, the metal ones maybe 4-5.. most of your inventory is weapons.. You scavanger all over .. feels a bit wrong, you open almost any suitcase you find and take money.. yep in the Zombie world money is still worth having. You pick up nails, taep, glue wire, etc.. all used to modify weapons.. but so far while making them hit harder, they still last far to short a time.. I felt like upgradeing was just wasted time (but Im guessing later in gme it may not be).

So far there have been a couple types of zombies (and zombies do have levels.. which scale with you it seems) so you may see muscle bound beach bum level 2 and the same guy level 7 later.. but there is enough it doest seem any more repatitious than Fallouts. But TYPES: standard slow mo easy to kill, faster.. easy to kill, Mega fast.. tricky if you dont connect right away.. in packs they are kinda scary. and .... THUGS.. i havent seen an easy way to beat these guys yet.. SLOW.. easy to avoid.. hard to hit.. they swing hard.. as in.. if they connect you go down.. you have 7-8 bars on your health bar.. most attacks take one off. Easy to get back with a Power drink ( all over) etc.. but the game does have a nasty habit of the hardest areas seem to have the fewest drinks.. the easier ones have them all over. You cant carry drinks but you can carry med packs. You can drive and run over zombies.. but much like weapons, the cars are amazingly fragile.. a few zombies do lots of damage when run over. This game is made to play with friends.. (there are 4? players classes with perks.. one is good with knives, one with guns, etc.. ) when playing the game it will pop up "SOmbodies name here is close do you want to join" and if you do you will be in the game with help.. So far I havent joined any others, and havent needed to. Solo is easy enough so far with some thinking. Some stragne quirks.. items seem to have a redraw distance reset.. drink a drin and if you leave the area and come back its there again. Zombiers seem a bit random.. go ot a specific pool and 3 zombies in water and 3 around it.. kill them all. come back in 10 minutes there might be one zombie there.. You dont celar an area ever (permanant).

Overall Its kinda fun, but VERY buggy right now.. I cant make a SAVE work.. My keybinds are not sticking.. Some keybinds have a ghost memory it seems, even when remapped.. they seem to remeber the original binds. Right now if they fix some of teh ugly bugs Im going to enjoy the game, but its pretty harsh right now.. and some of the bugs are frustrating. part RPG, part action, part explore.. it really is Zombie Fallout in a way..

WARHAMMER SPACE MARINE: warhammer in FPS mode.. or 3rd person mode.. its over the shoulder ... I imagine so when your in the thick of a orc horder wielding a chainsword you can see um all. The game looks pretty much ... like the Relic RTS warhammer games.. Bleak, wartorn.. The Voices are the same form the Prevouis warhammer games and work well. The story.. Orcs invaded a forge world ( for those who are not in the KNOW... a weapons factory) and want to take all the good stuff, your job is to stop um.. You have 2 guys with you, and you are an Ultramarine.. (again, for those who dont know, the badass of the game world (sorta)). Its the standard coridior shooter.. you really cant wander much, one way to go, not much to do but plow ahead and a strange health system.. you have a sorta shield, and when its down, you take life damage.. get out of harms way for a short bit.. your shiedl comes back ( halo style).. but health never does (during a mission, when complete you are healed to full again). They use some impressive vistas.. HUGE bridges in the distacen that dont look like a backdrop, but like actually game world geometry.. Huge planitary guns.. Trains that are huge ( and moving that you fight on). etc.. On batel has you on a moving train with a ship chasing you.. you shoot at it .. neat scripting.. in fact serverl nice touchs on this. I liekd the fact that thes cust scenes played a very big roll int eh game.. Not just so show cool stuff. But some is.. when moving along you will alwasy see orcs running in the background, above you, below you all over.. expecting them to pop out someplace (and sometimes they do, sometimes they dont).

Plays well, is fun, enemy ai is ok, friendly AI is good enough you wont be screaming let me go solo. Right now my biggest gipe is its to easy (on normal), but your first "boss" battel is HARD.. teh game goes from simple to .. "how the heck do i win" way to quick. Once past it, its easy again till next boss.. (and boss battles are not necicarrily bosses.. but hordes of enemies you have to live through. The strange difficulty kinda put me off for a bit.. to easy then to hard.. I like a much more gradual ramp. The weapons (melee) are deadly.. and you ahve a foot stomp-stun very deadly combo if you are in close.. of course they like to have high up catwalks with shooters.. so you cant rely on it all the time.. The guns is maybe the real weakspot.. they have horrible reaload times, and way to small clips.. your main gun is infinity ammo, but small clip size mmeans even the lowest orcs take more than one clip... which when they come 5-6 at a time.. your gun just sucks compared to melee. Your bolter is better.. but as you get it, the orcs get stronger too.. so 30 in the clip.. still takes a clip on the harder orcs.. and the BIGGER guns.. have such small amounts of ammo you really need ot save um for the BIG bad enemies.. Jump jets are in game, but you can only use certain area's.. which is to bad They are a blast.. you get a crosshair for your landing spot.. stun city.. and a chainsword.. and foot stomp.. Melee is your friend.. and makes the game quite fun.

I wish the guns had a bit more Omph.. the foot stomp (once mastered) is way OP as long as you can avoid ranged attackers (not so easy). The single path is a bit boreing with the HUGE (appearance at least) world background objects.. This game in a Fallout type World would be AWSOME!!! of course they throw alot of orcs at you several times so that would be impossible i think.

Both games are worth a look if you have interest in eitehr type of gamestyle.. Dead Island (wait for more patchs)..

pretty acurate video. SHould

pretty acurate video. SHould have had him hit the down zombies about 20 times, everything (apples. pop. food) have him grab it even when he isnt trying. its really to bad Dead Island looked so good, but even for a few hoirs was fun, but its flawed bigtime.. the game isnt about zombie killing its about repairing weapons non stop, or just thorwing um away and grbbing a baseball bat that is broke after 2 zombies.

Dead Rising- hmmm.. funny I

Dead Rising- hmmm.. funny I missed this comparasion completly and its pretty correct.. I loved the idea of the DeadRising games (and completed both) but the exacution was lacking.. Quite simply I agree 100% the time limits forced on you made the game "work" and it lost the fun factor it promised in screen shots and video's.

Dead Island is a better game IMHO. Time limits? not that I see, but there may be missions with them that I havent hit one yet. You wont see 100's of zombies, so far i ahve seen 10-12.. and even then with some thinking you wont get more than 2-4 on you.. These are not "homeing zombies" they are the traditional ones.. they dont really see you untill others notice you.. They can be fast.. really fast.. but i havnet ran into to many of those (those are homeing.. you do hear um screaming when they come, so you do have warning). In fact many areas of the game wont have any zombies at all.. And once you clear and area, theyd dont come back.. untill you leave it, if you revisit a spot it will have more.

Dead Island is much more a RPG than DR.. you start he game with 5-6 others they will ask you to do stuff for them "visit bungalow 11, I left my necklace and its my mothers" while in a zombie end of world thing this would be low priority to me.. its a quest. Others are a bit more "realistic" See if my husband is holed up in the lighthouse, i heard others where there.. etc.. We need a truck to hual us out.. but this one is missing parts.. you go scanvenger parts, etc.. The bodies are rotting and drawing more zombies in we need gas to burn them. All this is leading to living untill you can make some esacpe (or get rescued).. you need parts for a radio so you can send a SOS stuff like that.. So far i think I could stand in the center of a road all day and the game wouldnt care..

BUT!!! its so broke right now, I cant recomend it at all. Even broke its quite fun.. but Frustration sets in when keybinds wont work.. right now no matter what key i have "throw weapon" bound to.. i toss it leaving any inventory/map/skill tree/quest screen. Gotta pick it up again everytime. Doors open with a USE key.. which "WAS" E by defualt.. i move my WASD keys one set over to give me access to a whole extra row on my left.. so my E key is forward (been doing this since Doom allowed keymapping).. So when at a door, when I try run throuhg it, it will close half the time becuase of GHOST settings (the defualts i believe). I cant make it SAVE.. which is not a huge deal as the gameis fun enough and im trying new character classes.. but the intro LOAD screeens are actually like 2 minutes plus.. and the start (prologue) has about 4 of them.. the loads are almost non existaant later in game.. BUT no save means playing 4 hours.. well.. you ahve to do it over again.. Plus it didnt remeber my key bindinds. so you have to do that over again too.

As i said, it sounds (and its all over the net now on gamesites) they screwed up and released some pre-release on steam.. its spose to be fixed by friday.. so I will follow up then on if its better or not.. its sad, I really want to recomend this game as its a change up on the action RPG that Fallout was. But I cant with the horrible bugs it has right now.

Warhammer is fun, quite fun too. its very actiony, The actual gameplay is good, if they had made it a little more open I would have really loved it.. Some design descisions hamper my like of it. The one path really limits your options on fights. They do make most areas about a football field across.. with lots of boxes and junk/walls to hide behind. and if you consider they can go far left, or ar right as choices.. it does have some.. I was loving the Jump pack and as only you get it (not your teamates) its not overpowering, in fact it could get you in some touhg situations as you can go where your teamates cant back you up. And the fact they put orcs up in the rafters shooting at you where you cant reach (except with gunfire).. it sorta seemed wrong to show me the jump pack, and then take it away and put enemies out of reach (and behind cover so they are hard to hit)..

The horde of Orcs end battle "boss" fights are a real challange.. the shield regen is almost impossible to keep up so you really gotta use cover (so when you are in melee you are not getting SHOT to DEATH)..

Its good and bad, both games seemed to be on the edge of "great" but ..just stepped short.. one becuase of bugs.. bad bad ones.. the likes I havent seen in years. and the other becuase of some close minded level design.
As for the gears comparasion.. I didnt do much melee in gears.. and the "sticky" cover mechanic is a "hate" for me.. wish it had never been introduced to games.. I prefer cover I can manually duck behind and when I get ready to move dont have to use a key to "unstick" me.. Cover is great, lean is great.. The New Dues Ex has the best cover system I have seen Hold a button to "stick" and let off to unstick.. Warhammer is old school cover, line of site.. I manually crouch to hid behind stuff, I peak out manualy to shoot.. etc..

Both games are worth a look IMHO.. DEMO's if possible, some short gameplay would give you a good look at both, not sure if either has a demo or not?

Dead Island sounds exactly

Dead Island sounds exactly like Dead Rising to me. I got the DR 2 for my 360 a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it first, but it has the same problems--weapons and vehicles disintegrate almost instantly, you can't ever clear an area, health packs randomly placed, and just STUPID difficulty bumps with bosses. You go from mowing down 3-4 zombies with a single swing to having to hit something 100 times to kill it, all the while one of their attacks takes half or more of your life. Meh.

I'm having the same problem with DEHR right now. Regular enemies can be dispatched with one sneak attack and all but a few with a headshot. Then you hit a boss, and there's no cover, they take hundreds of shots, and of course if they start firing at you you're dead in seconds (or less, even).

I don't know why so many games are pulling this crap now. Why build up your confidence by having the regular mobs so easy, and then hit you with a boss that's easily fifty times harder to beat? I can understand making them more difficult, of course, but this is absurd. What really sucks is that there's no way to progress until you do beat these bosses in straight-up fire fights, so all your hacking and stealthing is useless. It's like a totally different team designed the levels, and then some moron from Teabagger FPS INC. came in to do the bosses.

Does Dead Island have time limits? DR2 has them and it totally ruins the game for me. The game would be so much better if you didn't have to constantly run at breakneck speed from point A to point B, running past zombies instead of killing them, even, just to hit an arbitrary time limit. And woe unto you if you miss it--either the quest is failed (best case scenario) and all your work is futile, or the game is over.

The Warhammer game sounds more interesting. I haven't played any of the Warhammer games before, but I have to say your desc. makes it sound like a Gears wannabe. I liked Gears 1 and 2, but not sure I'm obsessed enough with them to want to play the wannabes.
