You'd have to be pretty gullible to think this isn't part of their marketing plan.

I have to go with Matt on this. Most tech sites are already calling the next iphone a slight change (if they know or dont, doesent matter, its press). Even with the Iphone no longer limited to one carrier its hasnt gained the numbers any of the "new " providers expected, in fact it effected verizons bottom line negativly do to inflated "hopes" its not selling like it did, its no longer the "it" product (not all is bad in Apple land, htey stil have the "it" prodcut in thier stables). WHile I wont agrgue its probebly the best phone for the average user nowdays, we are alot more tech savy then even 5 years ago when it was the thing. Love it or hate it apples closed system (after riding the 'anti establishment bandwagon with 1984 Orwell ads they have become what they rediculed back in the past) may be the stronget link right now, but as more and more Android devices grows its going to start biting them.. in tiny bites (this is opinion... Androids system has already been biting them, but it appears some regulation is on the way, hopefully not as draconian as Apple, but only time will tell)

Apple is in an interesting time right now.. its quite honetly at its strongest.. and that is (history shows it) when most companies make the first misteps. And the whole Jobs thing, take it however, its going to impact it.

Thye are no longer King of the Phone world, take it for what you will, the Andorid platform has ecliped Ios in user base, and is growing at a much faster pace then Ios is. Last number i saw was 43% Android, and 20% Apple ( it just passed Symbian, but anndoid took a bigger chunk of symbian than apple did) Projections ( and they are just that) ar for a 50%+ android market in less then 2 years.. Apple is expected to grow 2% in teh same time.. as rim and Symbian slowly die. When you consider where the Iphone Ios was when it was a few years old in user base.. and where the Andorid Os is .. its no contest.. the Android OS has grown faster in every side (of course one cant fiorget the world is alot more phone freindly now.. its a disffertn world now than it was back then).. its a coiuple year old and its beat a OS that been around ages ... I wont debate which is better as we all like what we like. On pure numbers Apple is losing the Phone game... The Ipad (giant Iphone) may help .. and may even swing the tide, only time will tell.. but right now Apple can use some "smoke" on the Iphone.. not the company its had enough. But the Iphone.. anything to build some hype is a good thing.

one other thing, big Picture wise.. China and Indias Cell phone use is skyrocketing.. North America is going to be small potatos to those two markets.. and guess which Os has the most traction there (could it be the free one?) Closed systems the goverements cant control.. well they dont do so well :) And we all know those guys like stuff they make.. so .. Samsung etc.. are the hot brands.. No iphones here (not correct hey do have iphones, just not much). Companies like Huawei Technologies (actually number 3 on most respected companies right behind Apple and Google by Forbes mag) they have new andriod based phones comming out.

-side note- if you invest I highly recomend some looking at those developing markets.. your US stuff may stink, but those places are making huge money (happy about my portfoloio) do lots of research.. as its a win big or lose big market.. but when you stikc with companies like Huawei it can be well worht some "testing the water"...

Apple may always rule the US but its to bad we are slowly sliding into 3rd rate on the scale of "what matters" we are becomeing Cold War Russia.. to much money on military and not enough on the rest.. but that all for another discussion

In the end.. i really gotta wonder.. front page news on every tech site.. working hardware in users hands.. PERFECT PR for a time when apple is wetehring some BIG "IF"s with JObs.. I do agree using it twice ( if the first one was PR) is pretty bland.. but it did work wonders once.. after the first one was stole way back it said interesti in the new Iphone and interent searchs was up 200%... prettty good marketing buzz i think.

ramblings of an old lunatic.. take um for what you will. I alwasy feel like im pissing in somebodies coffee when i say anything bnad about apple.. why dont i when i bitch about MS or EA or anybody else?

Maybe, though I don't think
