I wa a beta tester for the ROKU netflix box way back.. when we had our own special netflix page beofre it was public. Loved the littel guy and he was hoding on till yesterday. I notice it was having issues with lists, and I had to reboot it alot in the last month. @ days ago it died, no light, no powr nothing. Time for that old tropper to be put to rest and a new one purchased. I thouhgt a tiny bit about a HD roku box, but ruled it out as My tv its hooked to has no more HDMI connections (and the HD ones, well, they require that). I then thouhgt eh..maybe another 360/wii in my room a used one at a pawn shop ( or heck eevn new) isnt much more. The Wii is small, but it simply would be a waste. a 360 is overkill and a power waste (and I already have 2). So i decided anoteh Roku box. Best buy carries them and I went to pick one up. Right beside it was a SNOY streaming media device i could plyug a USB thumbdrive or HD in and play movies from.. seemed like a nice upgrade for the same price (it also has all connections and does HD too) and as I said SAME PRICE as the Roku...

ALL I CAN SAY IS I screwed up. First off SONY's website for regestering products is a nightmare. it uses the same terms for each device..
Registration code is required on website, says to go to the SETTINGS on the device and find it.. Well on the device there is no CODE in this location.. nothing YOu actually have to go to NETFLIX and then it give you a code .. which I assumed was the one for NETFLIX... silly me, that is the code it wants. Pure desperation made me enter that. Once I did that it was fairly easy. Iwont talk about setting up a SONY account for hardware.. in IE8 it never worked.. i got those generic white pages you get when webpages seem to be dying.. I finally pasted into Chrome and got it to work. I realy am trying to ween myslef over to chrome, but its hard at workj we support IE only so i need ot use it there.

After the knightmare (ok it took about 20 minutes total) of setting up a SONY account, getting the device registered i thouhgt my pain was over.

Dang, this menu systemn is UGLY, PAINFULL and annoying.. The Ruko player shows wher you are in a show, lets tou scroll throuhg a series.. this SONY box is like a PC its not a nie interface at all, Once you watch a show it doesnt keep track if it been watched or not.. so in a series if there are 20 episodes, and I watched the first 5 and came back to it later this player wont show that I watched them. i just have to know.

MY extra value turned out to be a bust.. Impulse buy without research backfired on me. Those Ruko boxs are simple, but the layout really pays off. The console layouts are 100% better (and follow the Roku layouts quite a bit).. Im disapointed.

All the work to get back into

All the work to get back into neflix and ... it appears the good old days are over. Starz is pulling out, and from what I read lot smore will be following. The Starz, while it was the "new" stuff doesnt bother me to much, but as its SONY owned, alot of the somny back catalog will be going to (from streaming).. Just when it was reachinga decent selection its going to moving back to the bad old days.....

Netflix pioneered the "succesfull" streaming video service.. now all the failures want to rush in and burn it down.. and piecemeal it out so they can all have a bite. They said there was a large meeting of studio heads.. they are already unhappy with DVD sales .. if they all get toghter and makeing streaming just expensive enough that DVD are an option again.. bah.. I think Im going to quite commenting on any Hardware, or digital services.. I get to worked up... things are just getting to those "dream world future times" in movies.. we can watch anything anytime and it wont cost us an arm and a leg. Sorry, no way, Warner Bro's, SONY, CBS, HBO want us to pay to watch it the first time on cable or theaters.. and then again almost the same price late to watch it again.. Im just sick of the big companies trying to suck every penny out of us (same as it ever was).

Im just unhappy.. Netflix was the clear best option of all the video options, best sellection and quility.. I keep hereing about HULU and Amazon etc.. Hulu is ok.. but many of there stremed shows lack quality (video quality.. and dont they still have cemercials?) Amazon.. I dont order enough for Prime.. to often i can find it cheaper elsewhere and with free shipping.. AMAZON is like Sams club.. they have great deals.. if you want to get eveything in one place.. but if you dont mind shopping around, its alwasy cheaper someplace else and with the internet shopping around is a single mouse click away (no work at all). Amazon.. it may just be the one who does Kill netflix (I know most investment mags think so).. so it may be an option.. last i looked ( about 3 -5 months ago) it was pretty sub pare sellection.. but I have heard its lots better nowdays. I guess I was just sorta happy with Neflix .. now its going to all change.. maybe for the better, i guess I can hope.

Thank you ver much for the list, lots to type ( hope it wasnt to much a bother as it is apprectiated) :) some interesting stuff on there. Lead and Gold, pleyed this quite a bit on PC, fun game, I wonder if the player base is there on the PSN, not much even on the PC anymore which is to bad as its a pretty good game.

Tore my mess of wires apart and fixed stuff, PS3 was fairly easy as I had a HDMI port free. now i been downloading updates. And (WEEEE!!!!!) trying to set an account up on the PSN on the PC is going nowhere ( down for maintance).

Now to see if i can unload this SONY media Streamer on Ebay without taking a bath.

I pay, but the only use I get out of it is downloading the free game(s) each month. Of course, I don't play them, but they're there... ;-)

is there a list someplace on PSN that shows upcomming stuff? or could you tell me what someof the past stuff has been?

I caved, much to quick as I

I caved, much to quick as I really started thinking about this, this morning. 4 hours later i have a new PS3 in my car to install when i get home. Best Buy had the 320 GB Infamous2 bundle (i liked infamous one quite a bit) for $280 plus i had a 10% off coupon, I also picked up Uncharted 2 for $19.
As i was driving home I remebered what a tangeld mess it is behind my bedroom LCD. My original Media player (xbox) is still hooked up, as is a DVD-r/VHS recorder, a HD cable box, my Media player.. My old 37" LCD didnt have alot of inputs.. I believe ther is some shareing going on someplace.. Time to rip that mess apart and make it all work again. BAH.. in the end work :) I guess its something I should have done .. years ago..

install and wiegh the merits of PSN premium.. (doubtfull I will get it).

The blue Ray, hard to leave

The blue Ray, hard to leave that out, but it never corssed my mind till you mentioned it.. and the Netflix thing.. DOH (Homer moment) i just checked it on my PS3 last night when my Sony box was having issues.. and I dont pay anything on the PS3, having a bad memory, it catchs up with you sometimes. I hate knowing that silly fact from 1984 but forgetting i have to pick sombody up from the airport in 2 hours..

I'm still not sure, but the Blue Ray has swayed me a tiny bit again. One of the guys on the software side was talkign to me and I mentioned htis and he said he would sell me his Slim(250hd) 360 with kinect bar and 20 or so games for $250 (he bought it about 4 months ago so it should have 8 months warrenty? its a year on the 360's right?) which is a pretty good deal too.. most hte game ar kinect and I already have one.. but it appears a Ebay sale with some games should net me $100ish back which puts it at $150 and .. damn Live memebership.. forgot that again..

all this becuse I bought a $80 sony media box without some research.. swapping a BAD Sony product for another product from Sony.. seems so wrong :)
Oh well more thought, dont have to do it today (but probebly will), thanks for brining up the BlueRay, it had slipped my mind.

Yeah, you don't need a

Yeah, you don't need a subscription other than the Netflix subscription itself to use the service on the PS3. Plus, it has a Bluray player, which is nothing to sneeze at for convenience. Personally I have three Xbox 360's and only the one PS3, but that's just the way things worked out. I tend to prefer the 360 interface with things, but there's no denying how flexible the PS3 is.

Really? I have an original PS3 60GB model with the hardware backwards compatibility (since upgraded with a bigger hard drive) that is VERY noisy. The fan runs a LOT. I would suspect the new slims are much quieter, like the new 360's are over the older models.

Well i am comparing it side by side with a launch 360.. so "dead silent" is probebly a bit of an overstatment.. all things are realtive :) I recentlly fixed a "broke" modded 360.. I had used this in my room for a bit with a HD.. its nice to have all your games at a finger touch with no need to swap discs.. but as its Modded no live or netflix. This one also had a fan mod, which makes the 360 runmuch cooler but is much noiser.. so again when I compare it makes the ps3 seem close to noiseless. I suspect both new models are probebly on par for sound now so that should be a moot point.

I must admit as a RPG fan I am leaning towards the PS3, as a recent search of amazon shows alot of Ps3 only rpgs.. if they are any good.. well that might be a problem. And I havent played Uncharted 2 yet (Unchartered was one on my top 5 Console games of all time) and Uncharted 3 is coming.. and as I have said far more than needed to be DEMONS SOULS is probleby my faovrite console game at the time (but EDF:insect Armagedon on the 360 is close 2nd or 3rd). there are so many reason to get either its really is hard. At first I wont lie i was thinking the PS3 as I was going to grab Uncharted 2 (its $20 right now) and the fact I can use netflix without a PSN pemuim account (err... ti think , need some research to be sure).. but some thought about haveing 150+ 360 games and only 40-50 PS3 (only) games.. which one has the bigger selection in my house? By pure numbers the 360 should be the choice. it seemd so simple when i first thought about it, but its really not.
