Chris Kennedy's picture

Those of you have most likely been reading about all of this drama with the Playstation Network. Matt just reported some of the drama earlier today. I have some BAD news...

The short of it is that the following information about YOU (If you are a PSN user) has been obtained thanks to a security issue -

* Name
* Shipping address
* Billing address
* Country
* E-mail address
* Birthdate
* PSN/Qriocity ID
* PSN/Qriocity password
* PSN/Qriocity security question and answer
* Purchase history

They have also said that credit card information along with expiration date (but without security code) may have also been compromised.

*sigh* Two wrongs don't make a right. Hopefully the hackers don't do anything with that info.

All that happens is that people like Sony look more justified for cracking down on it.

I agree with you 100% i really do... but ...

We live in a world where nobody wants to be frisked in an airport "its embaressing" or want thier MP3's with DRM etc... How do these companies maintian cash flow if we can do whatever we want? We may be able to say this was Sony's fault for not being secure enouhg, and that ight just be as simple as it is.. (and im guessing it is in this case).. but they gotta crack down somehow, and DRM and security is really there only options...

WE consumers are the issue... while I love discussing it and hateing on DRM for legit reasons... Any of us who has never copied a MP3, pirated a Game, watched a TV show you downloaded ... they are the only ones who really should be complaining... anybody here able to claim that, i cant... so Im part of the problem.

Face it, if nobody stole the companies sure wouldnt spend the money it takes to secure thier product, we make them becuase as HUMANS we are flawed to heck and back... and do thing that are wrong and justify it any way we want. "I cant buy it anywhere, so I have to download it for free illigally" sorry no.... incorrect..

I hate the misery we endure to do some stuff.. becuase people are bad.. but as I say... while Im not the worst offender.. or even one that offends often.. I HAVE..

As for this PSN thing.. Im guessing its blown up worse than it is... the week downtime is far worse in my eyes...

and when My CC is stole and i have bills... I may just change my tune :)

I can finally play my games without 'updates'

Wow now I can finally get to play my PS3 titles as the machine doesn't request me to download and install an update. Perhaps the games I play now are buggy as hell but heck as long as I can enjoy it :)

Perhaps this was just a "Break In?"

Perhaps this attack on Sony has little or nothing to do with the political/moral arguments over the "Geohot" episode or other anti-Sony viewpoints. It might be just another criminal breach just to gain personal info and credit card numbers of the company's customers for nefarious purposes. Some hackers discovered a vulnerability, and they took the opportunity to gain from it.

This is much like other recent security breaches of other less-controversial companies where personal info was vulnerable. This begs the question: if a company as large as Sony can be hacked in such a manner, what other companies with valuable info are vulnerable to such attacks?

I wonder what or how it can

I wonder what or how it can effect me.. I dont have any credit, and havent bought anything on it. Isnt most of that Tied to the machine? So i could possibly gift something? Now if they have CC numbers... that is ugly... The PSN stuff.. sucks , yes.. but waht can they do with it? I guess they can get my account banned maybe? change my password?

And not im not trying to be a smartass, im just wondering what they could do (if they have no CC's).

Sounds like us US people are

Sounds like us US people are probebly the least hurt, it was NON US CC that are gone.. if you belive SONY, im not sure what to think.. If they have my CC I wouldnt be happy, but my PSN ID and such eh.... I never used it to buy anything.

one thing I think is amazing is several Banks (I had to change my Debit card twice in last 5 years becuase of this, at 2 differnt banks) in the last couple years have LOST way more CC and account info than this and its forgotten days later... yet this is lingering, guess us gamers are a vindictive bunch, I would have figured the people who use banks would be more pissy. Maybe I just read more game news sites then regular news sites and it seems that way.
