I notice a lot of games nowadays have a GOTY edition, which stands for "Game of the Year." Well, I decided to ask about the Year of the Game. What year do you think saw the best game releases EVER? And, before anyone thinks of it, you can't just say 2011 because you can play all games previous. Nope, it's that year's selection of new releases only.

To help answer the question, you can use Mobygames' Game Browser.

It's actually a very difficult question! After looking at several years, I'm getting very close to 1990. That year is a nice cusp between gaming eras, so you get some great turn-based games sitting on the same shelf with the newer real-time stuff. Indeed, I think I would be quite happy with this list. Bear in mind, some games it lists are new ports, which I don't mind counting for the purpose of this question.

So, anyway, what's your year and what games really stand out for you?

4-D Boxing

Speaking of 4-D Boxing, I installed that game in 1992 and it's still there and still played all the time. What an amazing piece of work that game is. Still blows my mind even till this day.
