Ginge released for Caanoo!

A fellow Youtuber who knows I have a Caanoo handheld tipped me of to the release of Ginge, after some searching I found the following info:

GINGE Is Not GP2X Emulator-Ginge is an application that can run many GP2X F100/F200, Wiz games and programs on other ARM Linux platforms. Currently it's closed source and runs on Pandora and Wiz itself.

It is not a full hardware emulator like MAME, PicoDrive or similar, it does not emulate the CPU. It can be considered as compatibility layer similar to Wine on PC Linux, however it does emulate small portion of MMSP2 and Pollux system-on-chips. It operates by hooking certain system calls and using realtime patching of code that accesses memory mapped hardware directly.

So my interest of course is with the Caanoo version which can be found HERE:

ATTENTION MARK VERGEER: You and anyone else who actually has a PANDORA or GP2X WIZ should be interested
to know it was first developed for your systems and can be found at the developer's website HERE:

Enjoy!

Cool!

This platform makes all these devices
Pretty compatible. I have used CINGE on the Wiz before sand also on the Pandora. Not all software runs but quite a bit does! Excellent!

Nice one!

Cheers Rob, can you believe I didn't know about it until now!

Mark (and Rob), have you tried running Cave Story (for the GP2X) with it?

Nope

I don't have the time but the very first post in my link said this:

Note that for Cave Story it needs extracted version to work. If you give it normal version it will attempt to extract it and that will take something like 10min because card is mounted with sync option on Caanoo.

"Cave Story" is one of the best games I've ever played, freeware or otherwise! It's incredible that it is a freeware game. I think it's worth the trouble of installing if you haven't played it already.

There's only two reasons *I* wouldn't install it (if I had a Caanoo): 1) I imagine that some of the images (particularly SECRET clues) would be hard to see on a smaller screen, and 2) if you've already played it, it may not be worth the trouble of installing it over something newer.

I've played through it twice back in the day. Heck, just talking about it makes me want to play it again!

Yes it is!

Cave Story is awesome. I don't like using terms that imply an order (best, better, top 10, etc) because it's not a linear thing at all, however it's clearly a fantastic experience if you're into old skool retro-styled games.

I played it a lot on both PC and GP2X and I wouldn't mind putting it on my Wiz as well. I have to say the crispness and clarity of the Wiz (OLED screen) is amazing so I wouldn't think that its smaller physical size would negatively impact your ability to see everything (secret clues included) on there.
