I can't really say anything

I can't really say anything about the situation without looking boorish or childish, so I won't. I tried something new that I thought would be a hit, and it wasn't (except with some dear friends). So now it's either return to the regular scheduled programming (which is definitely becoming more like work than fun) or just lay low for awhile. I think I'm going to do the latter, let everyone (including me) cool off for a week or two and think about where to go from there. I don't want to sound cheesy or anything, but I do think I'm a point in my life where I need to start asking and hopefully answering some big questions about myself and the future.

Well said, but ...

Group dynamics can be pretty powerful and almost uncontrollable. A good example of group dynamics is traffic. Sometimes you have these days where everybody is driving aggressively with reports on accidents left and right on the radio. But nobody - except me and a few other traffic outcasts - chooses to slow down and not get into that lizard brain traffic battle.

But there are quite a few times that I just join in with the communal road rage thing... Weird we're just monkeys without the fur.

You're spot on Mark, except ... I don't think I agree with that last sentence ... I think many of us have plenty of fur ;)

Peer pressure / group dynamics

Giving the best derogatory comments
Drinking
Driving
Smoking
Being an arse
Being stupid
Being lame

Insecurity, there are so many people out here that are only able to feel good about themselves when they have a sense of feeling better than anyone else or actually kicking someone something down.

Popular videos

Most videos I make on YouTube are viewed by friends and the comments are usually positive. But every once in a while I make a video that somehow gets way more views then normal and then I see the 'nasty factor' creep in. The video is not watched by friends only but by very critical people who don't mind giving harsh comments. I usually proceed to check on that person's channel and often find out that harsh comments stem from people with zero uploads themselves or just a few bland uninspiring ones. So their opinion a actually isn't important then. But a comment from a professional or friend does matter more. What also happens is haters and trolls are attracted. I think my troll who has been consistently thumbing down my videos must have gotten bored as it doesn't seem to be doing the thumbing down no more on my latest videos. This troll did that anonymously but it is very obvious who it is. That's just life when you stick your head above the corn (Dutch proverb).

I also believe in giving positive feedback, doing otherwise is just being nasty and childish. I have little tolerance for simple nasty remarks by 0 uploaders personally. Not that a 0 uploader can't have great comments as you don't need to have uploaded videos at all in order to have your comments taken seriously by me. It is all in the demeanor and content, the way things are said.

Writing, art, performing and creating you must do for yourself and he pleasure you take out of it. People doing things solely for fame and glory often don't really have their hearts in it and the often shows. I personally like making music and singing a lot but wouldn't be found on stage much. I enjoy the privacy of making music with friends much more besides there's a serious lack of true performing talent LOL

Too true, Mark. A lot of it

Too true, Mark.

A lot of it is just pure personal opinion; completely subjective. Sometimes you just intensely dislike something without a good reason why. I guess what I find odd about the reactions to Matt Chat is that people who dislike the show bother to comment on it and try to write the most scathing comment they can come up with. Why bother? If you don't like a show or channel, why not just go to another one and never watch it again? I don't like a lot of what I see on TV; imagine how stupid I would be to take time out to write scathing letters to each one detailing why I think they suck. I guess some people just have mental problems.

People getting upset?

I guess you turn into public property when people get upset because of a very creative and funny video....

But then again it is very easy to quickly have an opinion on something, yet it is not so easy to create something as funny and creative as Matt chat or any other video / article for that matter.

People actually got upset?

People actually got upset? Interesting... sounds like you've gathered a real internet following if people are already complaining about decisions you make!

No offence, while I smiled

No offence, while I smiled its not something I would be to much interested in. One thing, you have balls.. I would never have the cojons to do it.... I make plenty of jokes with friends, but to put myslef on the net.. I would be the next Star Wars kid... no way I could handle that abuse. I honestly thought you did a pretty good job, but Im just not into that type of stuff. And you say it got some people riled up? thats sad.. while its not my thing, i could see you took some time and such to do it..

Thanks, Rob. I think though

Thanks, Rob. I think though I've managed to pretty much alienate all but my friends and hardcore fans. :)

I'll probably lay low this week and take some time off from the show. Let tempers cool down a bit and then try to come back with a regular video. I've been wanting to cover Quest for the Rings or Star Saga (both of which I temporarily have here boxed), but it's been hard trying to get people over to play them (and who would agree to be filmed). Not really something I can do properly solo.

Let's just say I downloaded the MP3 but yeah, I'm weird like that.
