my instant gratification bug

my instant gratification bug hit hard.. I couldnt wait and picked up another SSD in town.. all i can say is DO NOT GET A SSD drive....

WOW is this thing fast! I want one in all my machines now. Win7 ultimate took like 12 minutes to install, im booting in 1/6th the time I am on my other machine (keep in mind the other one has been going for about a year on win7 so its not like new).... these things are to expensive in all my machines.. Cool thing about a spare one, I can run my other one with the game/games I play the most.. SPEED DEMON!

I repeat, unless you ahve money to burn, DO NOT PICK ONE UP you will want more.. I know I read the reviews, looked at the benchmarks, but till you see one in action its just not the same.

One more snafu.. didnt watch

One more snafu.. didnt watch my SDD ordering and got a Laptop one with no mounting hardware... heck its like 2 credit cards stacked! All the ones I have delt with up to now look like thin laptops drives.. this one is half that thick and NO SCREW holes anywhere... just smooth and the mini sata connector (also something I didnt get and adaptor for) So my new build is all togther except my OS HD... had to order and adaptor and Now I have to figure out how to mount it...

I kinda got side tracked, I dug through all my old parts and put together 3 machines. Had an E6600 and a 8600Geforce.. and tons of 300 to 500 gig Sata drives. And put 2 e8400's toghter, one with a 4850ATI and the other with a 8800 Geforece, had to pick up some used memory of Anandtech ... so now i had 3 machinse all set up (bought 2 -$34 cases from newegg (had one) and and the $25 i paid for 4 gigs of memory... got all my used parts ..err used up and working. I gave one to my good friend, he has got his wife into MMORPG's and she had a pretty old AMD (also one of my cast offs like a 2400 or somthing old!!!), One went to my ex's boy, he is just turning 8 and loves lego land but his mom wont let him use her PC much.. and the last one is going iN my MAME cab.. the old AMD 4800X2 from it is being retired to (ta da!) yet another ex's kid... she doesnt do anything but Facebook and crap like that so she dont care if its anything but working... I am a bit reluctant top contribute to her being on facebook.. (she is 16...) but it what she wants and her mother doesnt seem to care..

When i finally got to mine tonight ... parts (as said above) bah!!!!! and Im gone this weekend out of town.. no new PC for me for at elast a week +

nah, you buy other toys and i suspect have a family (seem to remeber hearing wife at least). Me Im single and have learned after way to many years money cant buy love so I dont waste alot on any girl i date (that seems like such a wierd term, date, at my age). Have been fairly smart with my money in the last 10 years so splurges like this dont hit me hard. even when they backfire. Your setup is fine.. heck mine was just fine.. my problem is im a tech head, new toys that work just like the old ones catch me way to often. We all spend our meony in differnt ways. I spend way to much on tech I NEVER use, but it sure fun for a few hours... Honeslty the only new tech toy i have bought that has got some real use is my KINDLE, i ahve read about 10 books since christmas on it. Was orginaly a present for my mother but ihad to open it and preload some "free" books :) and weather delayed christmas so I been useing it and will get her another i guess. My ipod gets used in summer on bike rides, but mor often then not i forget it. My phone.. its got all the cool aps, but I hate it.. (not the phone per say, but the loss of my away time, it can ring anywhere!!!!!), all my consoles and handhelds and now that multi box thing (when it gets here).

No your system is just fine.. probelby makes alot more sence then mine really. All of it but Os X! get a mans OS! :)

mamecade I hear ya.. I used

mamecade I hear ya.. I used to go with top of the line stuff on all my builds but the fact i was doing it every year made it impractical from a price point .. And extra $1000 in my retirement fund every year starting at 35 is a heck of alot of money at 65+ :) DANG that AGE thing.. pre 35 I would have never thought that :) And of course the fact that i game 95% of the time with my home PC (my work PC (thankfully I get to pick and build those too, and not pay for them) does all the ..err work) I no longer go top of the line, I go best bang for buck... and this time.. just a BANG it seems :) My new system looks a bit like yours.. I only started with 8M of ram (but have slots to add 8 more.. it is cheap enough now, and dang it you got me thinking now!. 5870's in cross fire and my big step up was a 128 SDD, swap my old raid Raptors my OS was on over to my "fast" gaming partition.. though right now I am sitting waiting for people to load 99% of the time anyways (wow, L4D2, etc..) Your system is a bit more like what I use at work (err. same CPU less ram (8m again) and ALOT LESS video card (quadros for 4 monitors) I did OC mine to 4 (waste of time, it only gained me a bout 2FPS in crysis when I drug my video cards to work and hooked it up to test but Im not 100% sure the PSU was enouhg, may have had issues there).

You wont need an upgrade for a long time with your setup, you run neck and neck with the 2600K on most stuff and are ahead in some of the pure number cruching stuff, and I think the memory controler is still a bit faster on those chips. Me I was still on a 2 core E8400 at 4.2 (or was it 4.4?) played pretty much any game, I didnt need an upgrade, unless you feel s cores inst enough (right now on 90% of everyting it is, but there are more and more multi core things comming).. but the tinkering and OC potential of that shiney new chip (and the ability to upgrade to a SDD, etc..) got the better of me. So i bite the bullet and got bit back it seems. Of course I have been out of the upgrade loop for about 3 years (longest I have ever lasted) and just started researching an upgrade about a month ago.. Im so out of the loop nowdays so if any of my "figureing" on benchs is way off forgive me.

I think you are right.. its a BUG for sure..

But the Sandybridge problem isnt quite as bad as most make it.. New product with a flaw=BAD! no doubt about it. But its just the SATA II connections, the SATA III are fine and a $25 SATA III add in card is a temp solution until a new updated chipset board. Newegg sent me a Email saying I could RMA now or wait until the new replacement boards where in and RMA then, they will send an email when they are in stock. So overall, annoying, but still 100% useable.

That is the question, as it

That is the question, as it was just released (the problem) nobody seems ot know exactly what will happen. SOme people are posting Newegg (where i got it) will take care of it all, just RMA it. But when and all that is the question. I just got all new parts for a build it came in UPS on monday.. and I read all the problems monday night (or was it sunday?). It appears if I use the 6GB sata connectors I will be ok.. Problem is I have 4 drives.. and a SATA Blueray. Guess i will put it all togther and see how it all playes out. I ordered a 4 port SATA card, band aid, but .. so it will jsut be a week or so downtime when I do send it in... Just sorta sucks :)
