OKAY THEN

Back on original topic, I gave in to my stupid side and even though I am broke......I ordered a GAMEBOX last night. Ah well, sadly I am hearing here and there (now that I ordered) that you might not actually be able to load anything except GBA/VIDEO from the SD card, hoping that is not true but we'll see.

I don't think it's a fair comparison to a netbook, because the Pandora for its somewhat creaky tech now is still a nice pocketable size. Netbooks are not, plus they lack the gaming controls.

I also find it funny that the netbook category is now considered all but dead, when it was the hottest thing there for a few years. Personally, I think I'd much prefer a good tablet to serve netbook functionality these days myself. Still waiting for the Honeycomb invasion and of course to see what the iPad2 ends up being before making my decision...

No I know, it was just for reference, just to provide context for the price.

Honeycomb (android 3) is what I've been waiting for , for over a year now! I just hope it's every bit as good as I think it'll be. iPad 2, iPod 5, etc also remain a bit of a mystery, for now. And that's just 2011 (which is probably NOT when you'd expect to receive your Pandora anyway).

It's such a pity.

Sounds like the Gamebox does

Sounds like the Gamebox does not run external ROMs: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=eaf1c5f7ddc410eaf953...

That would suck if that's indeed true.

On a more serious note, it's a bit too late now; and the price has gone up from $300 to $500 (yep!) ... so ... nevermind! You can get a fantastic 11.6in netbook running the latest AMD fusion (dual core 1.8ghz + ATI 6300 gpu all on the same die + 3gb ram and 320gb HD -- look up the HP dm1z netbook) for that money.

Well, it was only $500 for a short time if you wanted to skip the queue. You can still pay the $350 and get in the back of the queue for the second batch, which who knows how long of a wait that would be. By then, though, we'll long be swimming in tablets and even the PSP2 will be out...

Our needs - and the market

Our needs - and the market itself - have changed, but this little thing has over 10 hours of battery life ;-)

Pandora

Silly me requesting a refund after almost 2 years and 1 month of waiting, when all I had to wait for was 2 years and 5 months. I guess I just have no patience... ;-)

Seriously, though, I'm glad Mark is finally getting his. At least someone we know well will be able to give us a real lowdown on the thing. I know Mark won't pull any punches in his analysis and he's well versed in both real hardware and emulation. If he approves of the thing and it eventually reaches purchasable inventory, I'd certainly be open to ordering one, though my needs have changed significantly in the 2+ years from initial pre-orders and a lot of the lustre is off the tech.

Got a UPS message it's due on February 3rd!
It is dispatched from the UK so it has to travel to EU mainland so it does take some time. This is real guys. This weekend I'm going to be holding a Pandora in my hands!

Videos or it didn't happen! :-)

Kidding aside, I would love to see a video of your impressions of the Pandora, assuming they actually send you one after all this time....
