c64pixels.com

I've been checking out a ton of Commodore 64 related sites recently and came across this little gem: C64 Pixels. The website is archiving and cataloging all of the C64 artwork it can get a hold of, and it looks fairly well organized. All of the artwork is broken down by year, format and artist.

If you're a fan of C64 pixel art and don't want the hassle of firing up an emulator or viewing these on actual hardware, then this site is a dead simple alternative to getting your pixel art fix.

nice!

That is really cool! Great to see what could be done on the old C64! Thanks for posting this.

Sweet!

This is an excellent site. Love the brightness of the 16 colour bitmaps. It is amazing what can be done with only 16 colours. Not sure if there are any fancy interlaced pics in there too - there do seem to be some. They do increase the amount of colours and pixels by interlacing the image and mixing various colours using sub-pixel technology.

Yup.. they include i1p interlaced singlepixel and i2p interlaced doublepixel pictures at 50 and 60hz. Although, I'm not sure how they go about capturing those.

As an ex comic book artist

As an ex comic book artist (very generous with my assesment of my abilities and calling myself an artist) I can say a good artists can make some EXCELLENT stuff with any medium. So lack of colors in no way can "hold back" a true artist. I to this day find it amazing what could be done with the old computers if a talented person put their mind to it. Some of the stuff there is very amazing. But when you do think of the limitations they are working with, my appreciation grows. Why is this all comming out wrong.. Im trying to say a great artist will be a great artisti with any meduim.. and while the colors are limited, the creativity isnt!

This is further impressive

This is further impressive when you consider that the c64's multicolor mode only allowed three unique colors plus the common background color to inhabit the same 4x8 block (160x200 resolution).

So you need to think about how to do the image within the limitations.
