I use a site called GAME TAB which combines alot of good game news websites so you can get the headlines and see the current storis and quickly move to the ones that interest you. Yesterday and today the most read story is:
"Lost Planet 2 has great ass jiggle physics"
Now I'm not above some skin to peak my interest, I am a male its built in (procreation and all that), but i must admit I pretty much stick to the real thing, video game pixels are generally not that titillating to me. My best guess is age determins some of this. In my younger years I know I looked at my fair share of adult titles. But other then a play here and there, i found most to be horrible games or simulations that held no interest. Strip Poker was about the only one I can remeber playing any amount of. A good game with picture rewards, why not. Fake money or a visual picture, I will take the picture.. But I havent bothered to look for one (poker) since i was in my early 20's (long ago). I really was somewhat suprised that the LOST PLANET story was so interesting. I did look (its ingame footage of sombody with the camera zoomed in on a female characters butt in a half thong and moving the character around to get the ..yes.. butt to jiggle, safe for work as in no worse than a beach).
I guess the real story is the time it was took to program that in should have been spent makeing the FLOP that Last Planet 2 was, a better game. I agree! But that headline was for nothing more than page views, is it good or bad to use it (sex) to sell a game or even a news story?
its not only game news either. In forums for games I see the character Mai for King of fighters all the time (exagerated boob bounce, now a trademark of most fighitng games). You go to mod websites and the most downloaded mods are normaly SKIN's (naked players). I ahve been working ons some L4D2 maps and look at alot of Source mod websites and ahve noticed this.
So I used to think it was just young kids, but the average gamer is getting older and older. Just the base desire, in the privacy of our own homes comming out? I'm not really looking for a right or wrong, just more an observation. I still stand by my SEX SELLS why mess with a working system. But then again, alot of games are aimed at younger people. But of course we get into the whole Bood and guts/killing thing. I never liked the GI JOE method (what I call it).. they are ROBOTS so we are not killing anybody human.. why make them look human then? thats how cartoons and video games seem to get away with it.

I guess in the end it is what it is, I just find it suprising, I was more intersted in the PSP phone screenshots and the Soty on how the New MMORPG Star wars game might be to late (tech is already old). Am i getting old, sex is only 2nd place on my game news headline views :)

My grandpa is fond of saying

My grandpa is fond of saying that people are no better or worse now than they ever were, and that seems to be born out by any serious reading of history. Obviously, popular conceptions like to paint "periods" in rosy colors, such as the glorious days of Republican Rome or Ancient Greece. When you take a closer look, though, you see lots of awful things, like mortal combat, slavery, child molestation, and who knows what else? I even saw some ancient pornography painted on a cave wall that supposedly dated back to pre-historic times.

Arguably the internet makes it more available, but you could always tell a dirty joke or story, and of course there's nothing to stop you from imagining whatever you want, whenever you want.

That is true. Sexuality and so-called sexual norms definitely ebb and flow. I think we can safely say that ancient Greece and Rome were far more sexually liberated than say the US in the 1950s. Hopefully we'll continue the trend of less oppression and not more, but history says otherwise (though history also hasn't had something like the Internet to keep the flow of ideas and information freely moving...).

I don't know, Carmine.

I don't know, Carmine. Whether people like to admit it or not (many are very uptight about sexuality for one reason or another), we are very sexual creatures. Society will survive porn on the Internet just like it survived cable television, mini skirts, Playboy, peep shows, legalized prostitution, etc. I think a lot of people don't give societal flexibility enough credit. Sure, new things are scary and may be abused at first, but eventually everything gets integrated into our normal daily existence and life goes on.

I don't mean to derail the

I don't mean to derail the topic too far, but this all makes me think about how... I don't know the word for it, but how the internet is affecting sex in general. It seems like any 8 year old could just put in the most sexually heathen of google searches and see anything and everything instantly. When I was coming of age broadband was the new awesomery, so I grew up without this bizarre way of exploring sex. I can't imagine how different I would be if it was totally normal to be well versed in the career of Sasha Grey at age 12. What's to stop kids from doing that anyway? I see plenty of children with their own laptops, etc. Maybe parents are more savvy than that, but I don't think you can deny what the instant easy-access of pornography might do to our culture. In any case I think sex in general is being devalued by it all, which upsets me.

Anyway if GAME TAB's users are predominantly young men then of course that would be a popular link. It's definitely a usage of the "sex sells" concept. I'm not sure how far implementing booty physics holds back game development, but in this case probably not a lot? Not really my area. Now that I think about it though, even before the internet was a porn-to-face adapter for teenagers, Lara Croft in her sports bra at the beginning of the first Tomb Raider was a huge deal. She was like The Beatles.
