The Burger Speaks: An Interview With An Archmage

Matt Barton's picture

Gamasutra has published the transcript of my interview with Rebecca Heineman, who I interviewed on Matt Chat a few weeks ago. Even if you've already heard or seen those videos, you might still get a kick out of the introduction I wrote for it. Enjoy!

Yes, and there has to be a better way! I was able to slow down VLC to type easier, but it'd be nice to have a way to just stop and start it. Professional machines have foot pedals for that purpose that let you pause, rewind, or fast forward without having to take your hands off the keyboard. It's cumbersome to keep having to use the mouse to pause it. Now that I think about it, I guess it might be easier to use my laptop and desktop simultaneously for this, having one just show the video and type on the other one. D'oh!

I agree about there having to be a better way. Like I said, I was extremely disappointed in Dragon Naturally Speaking, which is useless untrained. It would be a pity not getting the Gameplay interviews transcribed once the film is released.

The introduction

I liked the intro you wrote up Matt, top work. Even though I've already seen the interviews (as well as all your other videos), it was still worth reading the transcript. I have an immense amount of respect for Rebecca Heineman now, and without you having interviewed her, I admit I wouldn't know who she is.

On a side not, did anyone else think "what if" while watching or reading this interview? I mean, I wonder if I'd had access to the same hardware and information, if I'd now be working in the industry.

In any case, Rebecca Heineman deserves a massive amount of respect!
