Great Observation

That's a great observation. Maybe that's been one of Nintendo's strengths--target the youngest children, and get that turnaround every five years.

I must say that I enjoyed

I must say that I enjoyed Black Ops tremendously. The single player campaign was handled very well, with a good storyline (reminiscent of The Manchurian Candidate with a bit of Tom Clancy thrown in). I'm playing Modern Warfare 2 now, but I still think Black Ops is better.

Yes, NPD is only North

Yes, NPD is only North America. There are separate ones for European countries (they're usually individual) and Japan. It would be difficult to do all the numbers at the same time.

Well, the 360 is the winner for 2010 overall in North America, which is a small shock. The main reason though is that the Wii has hit a saturation point. Wii has no danger of losing the overall lifetime sales crown. If the Xbox 360 had any type of presence in Japan, the race for worldwide second place wouldn't even be close between it and PS3. With the strength of Japan, the PS3 is only a handful of millions behind the 360 in overall worldwide sales. It should eventually overtake the 360 (against, thanks to the disparity in Japan), but it's certainly not a given.

While the Wii's momentum has slowed significantly, I think it's still a viable option for the time being simply because the relative value of the bundles they're putting together is still pretty high. $200 with a few games is a good comparative deal, and I would imagine the majority of people don't know the SD versus HD difference.

We're AT LEAST two years away from the next generation of consoles, I agree. I'd expect announcements maybe at the E3 after the next one, then it's just a matter of playing the waiting game.

Isnt NPD numeber for North

Isnt NPD numeber for North America only? I know we are the big spenders .. but ...

IF its NA numbers only why do they post numbers for other countries on GT5? One lone product?

Each console has better months, but i think its a givin that the Wii was this rounds winner, and the 360 was second.. Why people dont report world wide numbers on a product sold World wide seems silly to me.

I heard Monster Hunter release in Japan had the PSP selling more in one month than the whole year.. Kinect has done the same for the 360..I myslef think the 360 nmbers will be back to normal (around the same but slighlty higher dismal numebr the PS3 is putting up) once the Kinect thing blows over.. Thouhg the Christmas time sale should keep it going at least one more month.

i still fine it one hundred precent suprising the Wii kicked the 360 and PS3 butt so badly.. I know nobody who still plays it (unless they have kids) since the thng came out. maybe IM just so far out of the loop (err, no, I am ...) the gimick stuff has been around for years (motion controls etc.. maybe not as good as the current stuff, but its not new) and it never took ahold like now.

So, what are we.. 2 years for the next set of consoles?
