>> Quick Peeks: Nanako in Classic Japanese Monster Castle [C64]

This week we are taking a look at Inside's [Portuguese Link] oddly entertaining (not to mention, odd) platformer for the Commodore 64: Nanako in Classic Japanese Monster Castle.

Nanako in Classic Japanese Monster Castle is a game in which Nanako has to rescue her younger sister Mya from a mysterious evil tower. The game comprises a total of twenty five levels that will require you to show off your mad platforming skills while at the same time addressing the puzzles found in each of the levels. After you complete each level you "climb up" to the next level of the tower... until you reach your goal.

The game can be played on native Commodore 64's by either transferring the D64 image to an actual 1541 floppy via a device such as an XM1541 or purchasing a boxed copy from their website. However, the easiest way to play the game is to download the D64 image file and play it on an emulator such as VICE.

uhhh

It looks like an interesting platformer, but.... uhhh, why is she in a bikini or underwear? There are some aspects of the Japanese culture that I will never get I guess. and I studied it for 5 years!

Hehe I "get it". When i was young and back in that game age that would have been sexy.. We discussed it before. for or against, most gamers are male (this is changing alot, but when that game was made it was mostly male) and sex sells. like it or not, its just a fact. Im sure I would have said the same thing back then.. Why is she on here? But other htan thinking htat I wouldnt have cared. Nowdays I do care, slightly, a cover with a Monster truck jumping 50 cars.. and the game is about 4x4 racing (no jumping cars or anything).. that bugs me...

Look at covers for most "fantasy" sword games of the 80's early 90's... the hero is most likely a guy, yet it will almost have some girl on the cover in a state of undress.. thats part of the fantasy thing.

never played this one.

Nice Japanese themed platformer

I have known about this game since it came out, like the music the gameplay and the half naked Japanese girl in the title screen. I guess the creators must think retrogamers were dying for some sort of 'sexy Giana sisters'

This game has been on my list to post since it's release but it was very hard to describe it in any meaningful way. For what it is, it's nice.. I do like the gameplay..

At this point I'll take anything new for the C64.. quirky or not. :-)

That's the link that was

That's the link that was given for their "company".. and since the site is in Portuguese it makes it even more difficult to figure out. Plus, I don't think the process is automated.. more like an order via email type of situation.

Nice

I'll have to give this a try. The packaging is quite nice.
