Impressive colors for a C-64 game!
Yes, the game has an impressive overall look to it. Very clean. Especially since he claims it's a compiled BASIC game.. using the BASIC-Boss compiler? I've seen references to this compiler but never actually found a copy of it. It does a good job though; interrupt driven music and sprites, small file size, etc. Almost indistinguishable from a native machine language game.
Hello Chip Hageman,
first off, let me thank you for taking the time to talk about my little game; also, I'm glad you liked it :)
Here are a few notes for your information:
* yes, it's been written in BASIC and then compiled;
* Basic-Boss Compiler: you can find it on planetemu.net;
* interrupt-driven music and sprites: no, no interrupts used (I don't even think the compiler offers a functionality of that kind);
* small file size: the compiler seems to be quite good, but it doesn't do magic - the key is the original source code (same goes for speed) ;)
I hope this helps.
Thanks Simone for clearing up a few points. I'll have to check out the compiler and give it a whirl. With everything you have going on (music, sprites, the overall speed of the game, etc) in a compiled basic program- it's a testament to your coding ability. I still have horror stories of my efforts with Blitz BASIC, back in the day. ;)
You're welcome, guys :)
I must say I am very impressed by your recent posts mr Gandalf42 - you sure worked your magic!

Me too, Chip. We all appreciate your postings. I'd prefer it if you did what our own Rob Daviau did and changed your username to your real name, and just used the Gandalf42 handle as a sign-off/second identity, sort of like "Chip 'Gandalf42' Hageman", as it would better align with the AA philosophy of only using real names, but even if you don't want to, I still greatly appreciate your contributions.

When I first made the account I just told you my handle since I use it everywhere.. once I got on, I noticed everyone was going by real names. I have no aversion to going by 'Chip Hageman' if you want to change it for me.. I couldn't find a way to do it from my end.

I can do it on the admin side. If you wish for it to be changed back, let me know. By the way, the user name thing goes for anyone... If you'd like a change, we'll be happy to do it!

Thanks Mark.. I'm happy to contribute.
