The Joy of STicks Website is running the results of a multi-site survey that determined enthusiasts' favorite 50 Atari ST games. Though the Atari ST computer series was relatively economical and quite powerful, it was overshadowed by the Commodore Amiga computer series and its more impressive audio-visual and multi-tasking prowess. With that said, though the listing is biased towards the usual familiar multi-platform titles that may or may not have been better on other platforms, it still gives a good idea of what quality games machines the ST series really were (and of course, for many of us here, still are). It's also a good example of how to do a better weighted best of/top whatever listing than the typical ones that reflect the preferences of just a few people. Enjoy!

Thanks for the plug!

Glad you like the list, Bill! You've also given me an idea for a new series of posts. As you say the list is populated be many multi-format games, so maybe there is a need for a 'Games The Defined The ST' article. It's also worth pointing out that there are many more great ST games (exclusive or otherwise) that were criminally absent from the list.

I love your's and Matt's writing so it's a real honour to get some props on your site. Cheers!

Time Bandits

One game on the ST games list that I've always wanted to try out was "Time Bandits." To my knowledge, it was never ported to another platform (like the Amiga), and I didn't know anyone with an ST at the time it was released. I recall reading raving reviews for it, though. Most (all?) of the other games on the list were available for other platforms, like the Amiga, so it seems that "Time Bandits" was the game that I need to experience.

You don't mean Time Bandit, right? http://www.mobygames.com/game/time-bandit I have the ST version. I may also have a loose copy on the CoCo and Dragon, though I'd have to check.

I agree that it's hard to think of ST-only games. There no doubt were, but I'm drawing a blank. One of my favorite games, Colonial Conquest, was not exclusive to the ST, but it had its best version on there because it was the only 16-bit port, so at least there were a few cases like that.
