I received an interesting e-mail yesterday from the folks at Arcade Retro Gaming regarding their Multiple Classic Computer (MCC), which is an Altera Cyclone 3 FPGA in a tiny box, which essentially goes one step beyond traditional emulation with a full simulation of the Commodore 64 (C-64) hardware. Commodore Amiga support will be added soon. The device has full Micro SD support and has a plethora of connection options, including joystick, mouse, and keyboard. It also connects directly to your TV via a high quality s-video connection, which is perfect for classic platforms such as the C-64 and Amiga. Of course, being a programmable FPGA design, future support for additional systems should be trivial.
There are many more details, so I suggest you check out their Website. It sounds like our own Mark Vasier may be the first out of the gate to procure one, so we look forward to his impressions!
I continue to struggle with getting the MCC-216 configured. I'm very close now, with both the C-64 and Atari 2600 cores up-to-date, but now I can't run C-64 ROMs, only 2600 ROMs. Very frustrating. This is the antithesis of user friendly.
That is actually what is still holding me back. The devices are available in Europe too now, still at a premium though. But I would imaging the device just read the D64, T64 files and list them in a file selection menu and just mount and run those files like many other systems would. What's the problem? Do you have to manually configure the files inside a configuration file or something?

Basically, yes. I'll have more details once I figure it all out.
After pulling my hair out for days, I finally went to the MCC's support e-mail and requested help. After a few days he sent me a working SD card configuration for my system (if you recall I accidentally deleted the original structure), which I copied over. It worked very well. So certainly the support is there. So now I have a working C-64 configuration with 255 games and a working Atari 2600 configuration with no games (I just need to gather them and copy them over).
Bill - I would love to see you do a more elaborate video demonstration on the device and the reasons why it is not for all...

I would love to, but I'll be out of commission for a while again. I have a new book deal that I need to finish by the end of next month, and another one possibly very soon as well. It looks like more work is being done on the documentary as well.
I will say it's working very well now, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to those with other options...
