Arr! Shiver me timbers! And other such nautical expressions! It is time to set sail with Sid Meier's Pirates!
Thanks to Stu for suggesting I cover this game.
Oddly enough, I never got around to playing the original, though I do own a boxed copy or two. I also have and have played the remake version (specifically the Sony PSP version).
I'd love to see you do a video with the PSP version. I wonder why there's no DS version?

Good question, since it's available for most platforms. Maybe the 3D graphics wouldn't have translated well, though naturally the 3D graphics are unecessary for the game to work (meaning you could do a mix of 2D and 3D graphics).
Anyway, it would be difficult to do a video of the PSP version, since I have an original model PSP that doesn't have video output. There may be a way to film live play, but as you know I'll be out of commission for another week or two anyway...
This is a great game, worthy of all the bajillion ports it's had. I like the DOS version the best myself. I was never able to do very well at this game, as I'm pretty bad at the sword fighting. But it's still lots of fun to play. I may have to try the PSP version, I didn't know there was one. I'll have to watch this video when I get home.
Another Sid Meier game worth looking at is Covert Action. This didn't get as many ports as Pirates!, but I think it's just as fun. It's kind of like Carmen Sandiego for adults. Only game I've ever played where you have to actually decrypt a cipher by hand.
As for making PSP videos, you can run RemoteJoy and view your PSP display on your PC over USB. From there you should be able to capture video. I haven't tried this myself, but it should be doable. Amazing what they can do with homebrew on the PSP.
Good one! I played the C64 version quite a bit. Loved the fact that the Dutch also play their role in the game as well.
I absolutely love this game. I too started with the C64 version and then I think I pretty much bought the ported version that was available for each system as I upgraded. As you say the most recent version is very good. It managed to keep the spirit and charm of the original whilst upgrading in exactly the right places.
As a matter of interest have you played Pirates of the Burining Sea? Basically it's exactly the same but in MMO form. I wonder if Sid Meier considered suing!?
BTW Sea Fever is also one of my favourite poems. All in all an excellent video.
