Silmarils collection

Sounds fantastic, Bill.
Do you know yet if the games in this collection are 'fixed' to run on modern versions of Windows or will Dosbox be required? It dosen't say on the official site link you provided?

We suspect it's running off of Dosbox, but have no official confirmation. If so, then some of the games are flagged as not running particularly well through Dosbox, but that might have changed for this release. It's possible it's a mixed emulation environment (ST or Amiga as well), but unlikely.

I don't even really like

I don't even really like RPG's (BOO HISS, I KNOW!) but I just bought this and am downloading now. I dunno, I guess I cannot pass up what appears to be a good deal lol! Also, I feel good about supporting anything that helps keep old games getting released and just supporting classic gaming in general.
Thanks for the heads up BILL, I would have not known about it otherwise.

Works very well

Excellent !
These games were amazing back in the days !
I have actually try the collection yesterday and to respond to junkmale, all the games runs perfectly on my Windows 7.
DosBox is actually the thing which runs these games, and as far as I have seen it has been correctly configured to run on a modern computer.
So don't be afraid and try it :)

Oh dear!!

Purchased, downloaded and installed today. The fun started about 3 hours ago!!
Everything seemed to install fine. The games launcher opens, click play and then nothing?? Screen just goes back to desktop.
Anyone having similar (no pun intended) problems?

Just a shot, I find issues with games or programs in Win7 or Vista can often be solved this way. During install (in your case re-install) right click the install icon and select RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR, sometimes older files attempt to write to place or access areas that the newer operationg systems are not to keen on, this has worked for me a few times.

If not then I can only wonder is something running in the background that might be conflicting? Maybe a automated process like update or something kicking you back to Windows? That's all I got, good luck.

Still no luck

Thanks for your advice RD but still no luck i'm afraid?
I'm really stumped now? Can't figure out whats wrong? It is strange because i have several games downloaded from GOG that have DosBox already imbedded in them and they all work fine.
I've tried a lot of things today but nothing seems to work?
I use XP and have deleted and reinstalled the package a few times now all to no avail.

Sorry to hear my friend I simply have not had the time to play or test for long. I can only think to try to contact the company you purchased from about the issue, perhaps they are aware or have had similar complaints, if you hear anything or sort it out please post with details, I hope you get it sorted.

Resolved ?

Hi,

You are running on Windows XP ? Because I'm also using XP and I have no problem.
Have you try to launch a game manually ? (You can do that by launching a bat file from the directory fscommand in the install directory).
Have you changed the default install directory or something like that ?

Hope you will get it working, it's worth playing :)

Still not resolved?

Afraid not.
Can't get these games running no matter what i try? And believe me i've tried!
They won't launch from the Bat files and i've tried redownloading and reinstalling several times with no luck.
The people at dotemu were initally pretty helpful but have now started ignoring my emails as tbh i don't think they know what's preventing the games from launching on my PC either.
It's clear that something on my PC is interfering with the games in some way but i've no way of knowing what it is or how to fix it.
Oh well.........
