A brand new episode of my Clone Wars-series. This time I take a look at the Yobo FC3 Plus. It will be a multi part video so be sure to check out all the parts if you don't want to miss out.
- the box and instructions -
- hooking it up -
-the guts-
In this part I open up the FC3 to see why the PAL Snes carts don't insert properly and to remove two dicy notches to be able to use my PAL Snes carts. It was quite nice to see the insides of this Chinese console. Pretty neat design inside. Very cheap materials used. The plastic is very flimsy.
-audio and video quality-
n this final and 4th part I have hooked up the console to the video-in on my tv grabbing card and I will demo quite a few games on the 3 consoles so you can see how they look and sound on this device. It seems that my LCD TV doesn't particularly like the FC3Plus as there is much more interference on that TV than there is on my TV-Grabbing card or on my CRT TVs. Video quality is just about the same in all three console modes.
I was actually quite impressed with the composite video quality this device offers. Do check it out.
The NES has a slight static interference in the noise, the Snes sounds just about perfect and the Genesis/MD has quite a solid sound yet is lacking some definition and in two of the games demoed actually produces quite faulty sounds.

As a link I have attached my RetroDuo Direct Screen grab and you'll notice that the video out and sound on the Yobo FC3Plus is much clearer despite the fact that the RetroDuo uses svideo!
It was very enjoying and fun to see your unboxing and testing the FC3. Thanks for your time and work! Really appreciate it!

I have the Yobo NES clone, so I'm not surprised to hear about some of the issues you're having with the unit. I wonder if we'll ever get perfect "emulation" from any of these devices in a non-software setting (a la, what the GP2x series can do, for instance)?

Whoa, Mark, this is a YouTube bonanza! Despite its faults, this thing looks quite handy.

I don't know if I agree. I have too many of these devices to count and if they fail even say 5% of the time to run games the same way as the original hardware, they have to be considered failures. Sadly, that's the vast majority of these devices. It seems the only "proper" way to do it if there's not a proper FPGA implementation is to do it through software emulation running on powerful hardware.

It seems that most of these multi console devices the quality is varying between the emulated systems.
The quality in emulation varies enormously in between various clone systems but also within the same multi-console system. On the FC3 the NES part is emulated rather well, including the sounds and all sorts of strange digital effects. The Megadrive/Genesis Emulation on this FC3 device is comparable to that found on the official Blaze Genesis machine with built-in games. The Megadrive/Genesis part has a worse video and sound quality and the Snes part is great but the sound does seem a bit high pitched with less 'full' base sounds. StarFox and other FX chip games fail on this model!
