3 feet of packages - 4 part video

Okay, I was home sick last week. And what is a guy to do..... I think I went a little crazy and ordered quite a bit of good stuff some really cheap and some not so cheap but all in all stuff that I really wanted to get. My wife was home sick today - I guess she couldn't help but get the bug the got me - and she was rang out of bed three times today by the postman and other postage/parcel services. She had a horrific day. Thank god she was feeling a bit better and she was just as curious as I was to find out what was in the packages. Today I have a camera woman in the form of my wife Elise - Thanks Elise for filming - of course there's no denying or hiding any of the stuff I got now. 'I went with bare buttocks' as an old Dutch proverb would say.... ;P

The 13th of October is a nice day to unbox, a whole shitload of packages.
This is the second part of the video right after the introduction.
Halfway through the video I talk about getting something from eBay UK but of course I meant Amazon.co.uk.
Some good prices, some a bit steep....but that is what you get when you order stuff when running a fever....(I was sick when I order this stuff....)
ERRATUM:Oh.... somewhere I am texting that a certain black console costed about 30 euros P&P but it actually was 15,00 GBP for the unboxed cetrain black console....so that was a pretty good deal after all...

The 13th of October is a nice day to unbox, a whole shitload of packages.
This is the 3rd part of the video in which I unbox some stuff a really had been waiting for.
I paid 15,00 GBP for the unboxed cetrain black console....so that was a pretty good deal after all even though it was hardware modded to 60Hz (Asian model PAL console).
The boxed version, which is in mint condition (new!!!) set me back 39,99 GBP.

Unboxing on the 13th of October. Be sure to watch the 3 previous parts. Everything has a beginning and an end. This is the end for this huge unboxing....

They're all "eh" except for the obvious ones, though it's a very, very good deal regardless.

I picked up an extra Xbox

I picked up an extra Xbox last night and some goodies. For $40 I got an original Xbox controller, a wireless controller, and six games:

Scarface (case was empty by accident; seller says he is mailing me the disc). (good?)
Stacked (good?)
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2005 (any good??)
Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (yeah!)
Fable (yeah!)
Madden 06

This unit is in better shape than my last, and I like having the extra security (in case the first one one blows up or what not). Still trying to net a PS2 for $40 or less; proving quite difficult. I was always interested in the wireless controller option and just having some extra controllers. Those tend to wear out faster than anything in my experience, so I like the redundancy.

Yeah, the Dreamcast version

Yeah, the Dreamcast version of THPS is the one used for the screenshots for the book's bonus chapter and it's probably the one that will be in the documentary. Probably the best version of the original game is the one done as a combo pack for the original Xbox, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2X. All of the myriad versions (at least the 3D ones) are very good.

I had Tony Hawk 1 on the Dreamcast. Thoroughly enjoyed it. There is a Gamasutra postmortem here:

I've only played one other Tony Hawk game - the 4th one and it was even more fun.

Haven't bought any games in a long time now, but I'm thinking about it. Last year I bought my friend's Gamecube, and played the Zelda games on it - must have spent 100 hours doing that, so I haven't felt like playing games in 6 months.

Some comments

Dukes of Hazzard - at least whatever one I played on PS1 (Racing for Home might be one of the sequels) - was awful, awful, awful. It was even worse than the mediocre ColecoVision game. The rest on the PS1 should be lots of fun for you, though.

Rainbow Six Black Arrow (I think that was the one) was a stunning game for the Xbox, and I imagine the rest of the games in the series are just as good. I particularly loved giving voice commands over the headset to my CPU teammates and the wonderful online games. There's probably no way to play it online at this point (no players), but perhaps the version you got at least supports the headset commands (assuming you have a headset for your Xbox). If not, it should still be lots of fun. I always enjoyed the tactical missions.

Just dropped another $20 to

Just dropped another $20 to get some PS1 and Xbox games. Pretty much all these have boxes (or at least jewel cases) with manuals. I haven't played any of these, so please sound off with any comments you have.

PS1:

Battletanx: Global Assault
The Dukes of Hazzard: Racing for Home (yeah, I know, but I loved the show)
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 and 2
GTA 2

Xbox:

Rainbow Six: 3
Mech Assault
Namco Museum (yay!)

The sports games are

The sports games are literally worthless. They usually sell for .25 or .50 in video stores (what video stores are left). Once the new year comes out, the previous year loses the vast majority of its value. Add additional years in there and you have something you can't give away. It's typically not worth it to get a non-new sports title unless it's the last in a series or a one-off.

Lode Runner 3D is enjoyable, but don't bother playing it without S-video. It's a blurry mess without it.

Intellivision Lives is pretty good, but without the original controller, you're missing out on some of the importance of the original experience. The Atari 2600 collections have no such caveats naturally.

Streets of Rage (and its sequels) is pretty legendary. Very solid beat em ups with classic music.

$20 box of goodies

I went over to a guy's place today who was selling N64 stuff. Come to find out, he had a whole buncha stuff--apparently he makes good money buying and selling big lots of merchandise on eBay, and collects gaming stuff from garage sales and such. The advantage is that he'll sell me stuff at good prices and there's no postage involved. :)

So here's what I got for $20 today:

Genesis:
X-Men (cart, box but no manual or poster)
Revolution X (Box, cart, and manual)
Winter Olympic Games (cart, box but no manual)
Streets of Rage (cart, box, no manual)

Gamecube:
Intellivision Lives: (disc, manual, box)
Megaman Network Transmission (disc, manual, box)

N64 (all loose carts):
Nascar 2000
Perfect Dark
Lode Runner 3D

All in all, I'm pretty impressed with the haul. It's a shame I'm not into sports games, because he sells those for $1 each (for many different systems) and many are in great shape with boxes and all. He also tried to sell me an SNES (tested) with cords and 2 controllers for $25. Probably should have gotten it, but didn't have enough cash on me.

Not game specific, but go

Not game specific, but go get this *BOOK* now if you haven't read it already. It is terrific, and I defy you to start reading it and put it down before you are finished with it!

The Road (Movie Tie-in Edition 2008 of the 2006 publication) (Mass Market Paperback)

I read the older hard cover edition, but this one looks fine.
