Geez...A lot of the responses indicate that they hate all of them. :(

I think you may be right about the need to try to get this beyond the gamer community. Lots of knee jerk reactions there that may not apply to the wider population.

Here are a few somewhat viable suggestions from the other forums. I have to admit, I don't particularly love any of them for various reasons that will likely be obvious, though of the lot, 1 and 2 seem the best to me.

1. Game(s) Over the Years -- History of the Videogaming Phenomena
2. "Press Start" A History of Video Games
3. The Videogame Culture - From the Golden age to now
4. The Videogaming Phenomenon
5. Game Over!
6. The joy of sticks
7. From 'Death Race' to 'Grand Theft Auto IV': The Complete History Of Video Games
8. Player 1

Probably still too early to be drawing conclusions, but it looks like Age of Videogames and the Videogame Revolution are the two most popular choices.

It's probably best not to vote on them at all, though, since it may contaminate the pool, so to speak.

Atari Age
English Amiga Board

You know, it would be nice to post it to a movie/documentary forum of some type, basically a non-videogame forum, just to get an outsider perspective. I really don't think - no matter what we call it - we'll need to sell it to known videogame fans. They'll want to watch it no matter what. I'm sure the Amiga forum will fall into a certain preference and the Atari people will fall into a certain preference, etc. Where, though? No idea, sadly.

As I figured, so far woot is not making an impact on these polls. People seem to prefer The Videogame Revolution & The Age of Videogames. Of course, we should give these time to matriculate.

Yeah, I stupidly voted for woot in the other polls, so subtract one woot vote from everyone except this one. :)

Yeah, only vote in one place

Yeah, only vote in one place if at all possible. I'm just voting here. It's going to be hard enough getting a clean sampling of sufficient size without duplicate votes. Thanks!

But then the subject of the documentary is appealing to gamers and not necessarily to non-gamers - so going with Woot! somewhere in the title is a good thing as most of the target population will know what it means.

I agree, but man, I'd love to transcend that target population, and I think we'd have a tougher time without a clearer name. Something like "Playing with Power" or "Power Play" and an appropriate subtitle I think would merit further glances by anyone, while something like "Woot!" might give a false impression or provide some type of mental barrier to a non-gaming audience. I just don't know. My main goal is not to turn people off because of the title. Once they're in, I don't have much concern about them STAYING in, but certainly I have a concern about getting them there in the first place. It's a tough, tough situation.

I almost LIKE the idea of NOT having "Videogame" in the main title, just the subtitle, as the word is loaded for a lot of people and will be an immediate turn-off. But then if the main title is too out there, it won't bring anyone in and wouldn't help with search results or program listings. It's kind of like Nintendo's strategy towards the end of the Crash with the introduction of the NES - "videogame" was nowhere in site, then, once the bait was set, hey, it's a videogame after all!

This poll is just too small...

I was just kidding with the whole Woot! - thing. I think it is a nice weird title that will get some attention but perhaps show it as a subtitle

The Videogame Revolution

Woot!

You relax. If you wish to ignore me on this, so be it, but our sample size for this poll is not going to get us anywhere. So what if it shows that "Woot" is the favorite title when we'll likely have less than 10 people voting? It doesn't make "Woot" any less of a bad title. I'm really down on it and never much liked it in the first place, but went along because I didn't really care and thought it could work. Since the issues with it were raised by Tom, an outsider, now that he sees how the script has taken shape, and the opportunity is there to replace it, I would like to act on that. I agree with his reasoning. Think about it, we can't even use it the right way to get "cred" (w00t!) and it's a word that may fall out of favor or disuse at any time, making the film seem outdated or old. I just don't get why you're stuck on it so badly versus what else is available.

I'm not stuck on it. I'm just saying, let's put the polls up and see what happens. If W00t wins by a large margin, which I frankly doubt very much, then we should consider the reasons for that. I don't think it will be as popular on other sites as it might be here, and I'm not even sure if that's the case here.
